Paintflies - 1065 Early Summer by Tairnyn

Map Description:

Spent lots of time adding artwork using green glass and silver. Also restarted work excavating around the outer perimeter, but it's slow going.

Starting to run into some logistics issues regarding handling sieges and the resulting influx of gear that I can't sell fast enough. Since I have no plans to start the economy (and thus melting) I'm left with few options. In addition, storage of non-edible food goods is expanding faster than I can process it. I'm considering digging out some large storage areas near the middle to clean out the entrance way of the trillions of boxes and barrels. I'm also finding that the pathing of the dwarves is becoming a little weird due to the large size and various roundabout paths that have to be taken to reach certain areas. Finally, my narrow entrance prevents an indoor trade depot, which puts me in a position that doesn't allow me to keep all the dwarves inside indefinitely, something I plan to address in the next incarnation.

Being that this is my 5th fort ever and by far the longest run I've had I'm taking away many late-game lessons learned that I hope to apply to a lovely abode in the next version. Particularly looking forward to the new handling of nobles. Although I love this fort I'll probably start anew once the new version hits, so depending on my progress this may be the last update.

Most circles (especially the larger ones) are created using the GIMP image editor offline and then carefully mapping them out in-game before digging begins. It's a painstaking process but well worth it for the sake of art!

Thanks to everyone who offered encouraging comments and I hope you've gained some inspiration from my labors.

Very circular, bubbly? Have you got designations for the different rooms yet?

Working on it.. have some plans for future rooms and just keeping everything up front for now to speed up hauling. All the food stuff is going back behind the river soon. :)

I like the ring you put in, and was thinking of doing something like that when the next version comes out because 8-directional movement will be implemented, making it so that dwarves do not lose time having to make numerous extra horizontal and vertical movements.

I'm glad you like it. It took a while to make sure it was completely symmetrical but I think it turned out nicely.

Yes, looking excellent so far. Very geometric and spacy.

You are stealing my ideas before I can implement them. I am starting to become slightly jealous.

I honestly have no clue what you are planning, so I hope you don't really think I'm stealing ideas! I merely thought to myself, "Self, what's the biggest, most ridiculous circle you can think of?"

Besides, I feel like the front foyer of my fort is way too cluttered and gets dwarfed by the grand center and rear designs. I love your new design and expect yours will look much better than mine as it progresses. Let your jealousy fuel you!

Do you have a method of making the circles, or do you just go with you think looks good?

This is looking fantastic, a grand job!
