Oldmetal - 202 Mid Spring by ClsfdKidd

Map Description:

The elves brought a pheasant and some caged vermin, halflings brought some crucible steel trap components, and it's starting to look like I'll be able to handle anything that the goblins throw my way. (Aside from a successful kobold who stole a Crucible Steel Tentacle Demon Figurine{?!}, and an unsuccessful kobold who got beat into a pulp by a legendary miner, there hasn't been any sign of attackers.)

I need a crapload of migrants like yesterday. There are a million jobs that never get done, and the only way I can get my leader to the trade depot is by turning off every profession he has.

The overall feel of Oldmetal is shaping up, and I'm very pleased with how it's starting to look.

TODO List:
Finish the 1st bedroom pillar
Dig out a barracks.
Find the magma pipe.
Dig out some forges and pump some magma to where they can use it.
Design and build the slave pits. (you'll see...)
If migrants ever show up on this forsaken piece of ground, build a bunch of craftdwarf shops and use them to clear all the rock lying around.

I can see how security is a problem. It's a neat design, though, and I can tell it's seriously labor intensive. What killed this fort?

Yes, security was supposed to be way inside the fort, after the entrance. Funny enough, lack of security was what killed it.
The high value of the carvings and roasts invited invaders, and the workshops under the ramps had dwarves out in the open when goblins showed up. It took too many years to carve out. Next time I'll have to do it quicker.

That has been my problem with more elaborate designs. You have to wall in fast before the first raid shows up. But then, how do you wall in quickly and then build elaborate Urist McMansions? Hm...
