Portalfaithful - 102 Early Spring by Razin

Map Description:

Portalfaithful's first year was relatively peaceful, and allowed ample time for it's founders to prepare their defenses and ready themselves for the challenges to come. The fort was at this point home to approximately 14 dwarves, and while their position was relatively defensible, it was far from comfortable.

I like the tower cap farm, it has a very cave like feel to it

Δ 17. The Trench
One of the first tasks the initial settlers set themselves upon was establishing basic defenses for their fledgling hamlet. To do so they dug a trench around their supplies through which to funnel all who sought to enter their fortress. These basic defenses, along with the axe(s) of their defenders (at least one of the settlers is known to have had military training and an axe) proved successful at holding back a horde of Mountian Gnomes, who otherwise may have eaten the dwarves out of house and home. These defenses would later be expanded upon as the security needs of the settlement grew. - Razin
Δ 16. Trade Depot and Barracks
While records from this early in the fort's life are rather sketchy, what little we do have seems to indicate that Elves visited the fort near the end of the first year and into the spring of the second. Records seem to indicate that vital food and drink supplies were obtained in trade for crude crafts.

The Elves (as expected) declined the offer of bedding in the barracks, probably citing discomfort around wood-carved bedding or a desire to stay with their pack animals. - Razin
