Fairly straightforward fortress, for now. Grand plans in the works, but for now getting a roof over my dwarves heads was more important.

Δ 16. Watch-Horse
This horse is tied to the top of a pillar, in the freezing wastes, and spots thieves and the like for us. I'd use cats, but both of mine got killed by chasm critters, and the dogs are too valuable to risk letting them get shot.

I thought about giving him some company with a Watch-Llama, but then I had to butcher it or starve. The horse probably got the better end of the deal. - Razin
Δ 15. Temporary Fortress
As you can see from my designations to the east, the long term plan is to have my fortress (or at least the entrance) situated closer to the chasm However, everything east of these two hills is obsidian, rock salt or limestone. I'll be able to irrigate some farmland once I tap the underground river, but my dwarves probably would have starved had I tried to do that first, and I needed to hide my supplies somewhere.

Right now these hills house 15 dwarfs (at the end of the 1st year). I'll probably destroy these hill entirely to make room for a grander entrance to the real fort, but for now they're the only real protection from the Orcs (and goblins I suppose) there is. - Razin
