Osor Adel, Kingdom of Water - 209 Late Summer by Tiogshi

Map Description:

The inner fortress is now hollowed, and I'm working on removing the roof over it. I had to take it the slow and safe way to avoid exposing the upper battlements as an entry point for invaders, so it'll probably be late next year that my miners finally get around to finishing that job.

This nifty structure (made from bridges, not walls, so I can get it to the map border) makes all trade caravans show up right here, where they take a brief underground tunnel to the trade entrance. And even if invaders show up here, instead of elsewhere on the map periphery, I have plenty of time to raise the trade gate and seal off the pedestrian entrances. - Tiogshi

I'm finally getting ready to move the primary food stockpile down from here, under the trade depot, to the third underyard layer (where the noble quarters and barracks are). Soon, this will be a trade goods stockpile, and I'll be able to trade things other than invaders' clothing and bins of locally-produced undyed silk. - Tiogshi
10. Underyard

Where my farms, early coffins, and the start of my natural-esque cave river are. The levers on this level cut off the river flow so I can use the flooding system for the pedestrian entrance, as well as in case of emergency. And as of year 207, only about a third of those coffins are filled; I just feel like being prepared. - Tiogshi

I decided the Dungeon Master, ponderer of fel beasts and metalworking, should have appropriate quarters. So he gets three magma-warmed chambers and cinnabar floor grates to contract his fine microcline furniture. The bed is encrusted with diamonds. - Tiogshi
9. Tower-Cap Farm

This chamber, and the two below it, were flooded by capping the river and letting it overflow into this side course, and then resuming normal pumping operations. It took a few months for it to dry out, but now we should have a thriving farm in a few seasons. I'll probably set up another, similar farm on the opposite side of the river if this one doesn't bear enough tower-caps for the next few years' needs. - Tiogshi
8. Pedestrian Entrance

Moderately trapped at the moment (only rock-fall traps of varying quality). All the walls fortified out to allow liquids through; I have a flooding system above, and a drain trench below. All the invaders' items get washed down to the entrance here for easy retrieval; you can see a few trinkets here washed down in the test of the system, the leftovers from a former orc invasion. - Tiogshi
6. Dining Chamber

The only finished dining room so far, this chamber overlooks both the lake and the waterfall (through the gem window at the north). I'll be using my usual tactic of engraving a row of tiles each year or two, to get a sort of walking history of the fortress. - Tiogshi
Δ 8. Pedestrian Entrance

I've been working hard on making this more secure and more efficient, and I think I've got a good design going now. With the help of hundreds of mechanisms, instead of using fortifications to let the water fill and drain quickly, I'm using floodgates to channel the water, and then dropping them after foes have drowned to give the water room to spread out and flow to the bottom. This should speed the rinsing of sieges significantly. - Tiogshi

The main sparring room for the lower fortress. The captain of the guard will be moving his quarters down here soon, and I'll be putting the prison down a hallway behind his office. - Tiogshi
Δ 7. Duchess' Quarters

The Duchess and her Duke Consort have arrived, and I've set this room up for them. That's an artifact cinnabar table worth ~190k in her office, but just +Statues+ decorating the other rooms. Already the Duchess has started collecting bone earrings. - Tiogshi
