Δ 39. The great pump (top)
When active, the pump drops lava or water from the sky, to fill the mould below. It's so high up because of the intended height of the finished fortress.

The lava flow, however, was painfully slow so I recently decided to upgrade the lava pumps... - SoulSkorpion

Well, with reservoir. Built after the first winter or second winter froze the river. We lost a wounded dwarf or two that winter, so this was built to prevent that from happening again. - SoulSkorpion
Δ 16. Cavern of heroes
Formerly the quarry where the stone was mined to build the volcano aqueduct (which became the south edge of the mould). It's now the temporary graveyard. Grander plans await the dead once the fortress is complete... - SoulSkorpion

This enormous pump system has been built to fill the mould with lava. It was upgraded to pump either lava or water, though water has never been run through it yet. Currently undergoing an upgrade of the lava systems to make them more efficient... - SoulSkorpion
Δ 15. The factory
Wallbraids is minerally poor. We have copper and the occasional aluminium, but no iron or other useful materials.

However, it's a very rich fortress due to the many goblin sieges (repulsed by the valiant efforts of our warriors. There is not a single trap on the map). Here, goblin iron is melted down and steel is made from imported flux (and melted steel toys and other crap).

Originally this factory has only been used to forge arms and armour for the troops, but now it seems necessary to start cranking out nickel and iron pump components for the lava systems... - SoulSkorpion
Δ 14. The lava system
These are the pipes that supply the Great Pump with lava. Originally there was only one (WAAAY too slow), then two more were added (still painfully slow). Finally, I decided to add pumps, on the basis that it would pressurise the lava and therefore be faster.

The observant among you will notice that the pumps are on fire. Exactly why this is happening I'm not quite clear on, but it's apparently because they're made of wood. The Great Pump's pumps are also made of wood, but it's never caught fire. Somehow being underground was enough to start a blaze...

What's worse is that this is the SECOND set of pumps going up in smoke, after the long and painful process of rebuilding them. That was necessary because I forgot to put in a door to stop the pumped lava rushing down the stairs and flooding the system... - SoulSkorpion
