Midsummer of the first year and already regretting the name. Oh well. I'm having a bit of a problem: I can't get rid of that chunk of ice on my irrigation canal. I was hoping that taking the channel into the obsidian would prevent it from freezing up when it left the magma, but that is evidently not the case. I'm going to starve to death unless I can get the farm up ASAP, so I hope I can find a way around it. I gimped my starting supplies to carry more wood and an anvil since there's no trade out in the middle of this glacier, so there's not a lot of room for error.

You could try to melt ice blocks over the tiles you want as farmland by pumping magma under them. Then draining it away if you don't want it too hot, not that it should make too much of a problem.
