After two goblin sieges, and the assault of a Dragon entitled "The Smoldering Silver", Guildlashed has put up a defensive wall at ground level. We're also expecting the King in the next few years, so I'm building a nice road to meet his expectations of quality in the area (currently at 1650¤ out of 5000¤ desired).
The new defensive wall was erected late in the fall, just after a goblin siege of only swordsgoblins and axegoblins (my 14 Champion Speardwarves made very short and messy work of them). It came up just in time, too, for as winter fell upon the fortress, so did another siege, this time including 10 marksgoblins. After the Fortress Guard dealt with them from the rooftop zoo with only one civilian casualty (I'm erecting fortifications to prevent that in future), my speardwarves charged out and finished off the wrestlers and swordsgoblins who remained. - Tiogshi

These nanoforts are always so CUTE.
I'm a little surprised you're storing so many bones (and in such inefficient storage space) with such little real estate to work with. Paranoid about moody dwarf requests?

Yeah, nearly every fort I start I lose at least one would-be Legendary Engraver or Metalworker to a lack of shells or bones.
As for bone efficiency, I use the 50% pattern for bone storage because miasma only travels cardinally, so any bad stink stays contained in its 1x1 "cell". Results in fewer unhappy thoughts during trips to the refuse heaps, which was a big deal on this fortress because of the very high efficiency of my first hunter; see the PoI "Descent Tour: 9".

Yes yes I see. If you aren't above quantum dumping, you could always dump diagonally down a 1 z-level pit zoned for waste disposal and keep all your bones/shells/skulls there.
