Half a dozen rhesus macaques suddenly appeared, and began to terrorize the outpost, killing a puppy and injuring several others before anyone could react. The woodcutters Ingish and Lor grabbed their axes and went to work. By now only a single monkey is still alive. - Rubberduck

I like the idea of a quaint little village by a river filled with vicious man-eating fish.
