Pillarseals - 202 Early Spring by YF-23

Map Description:

On this map, I just started (Chucktrades ended up being a waitfest, either for things to get done, or to happen). Ironically, I didn't remember to check the neighbours for this one either, but, IIRC, it was pretty central on the map, so it should get more commotion.

In any case, this map is probably a bit too large, but I had to go with it to fit in all the features (I don't remember what most of them were, but I think they included an underground water supply AND magma). The size however causes two problems:
1) Low FPS.
2) Things are perhaps a bit too far away from each other.

I really like the designation work so far though, so I'm not sure what I'll end up doing.

Point of Interest: Entrance area

This place was ALMOST shaped like this when I started, and I like how it is. Almost feels right to start in such a location. It's shaped right, the small hill acts almost as a natural wall, the trees are right next to it.
Only problem? It's a bit too far away from most other interesting things (I'm pretty sure the magma was on the opposite end of the map). - YF-23

If your map is slow starting out, it will only get slower as you play - slower and slower, until you quit in disgust.

I've learnt this the *hard* way. Consider a much more modest map and init.txt settings.

I know of how large maps are hugely affected the more you play, FPS wise. I too learned so the hard way, but fortunately, it was while I was still new to the game.

However, I seem to have fixed this, mostly, by switching to full screen; with full screen, I got 90+ FPS, which later dropped to a modest 40+-50+ when I dug deeper (which may or may not have to do with me digging or not, though I do think it's probably due to all the stone).
I'll probably disable some things though, weather for sure, and temperature, at least until I hit magma.

You can download the compressed map file: 2009-07/yf-23-Pillarseals-region7-202-329.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
