Year 4 of Construction
This year construction was severely delayed by an unexpected onslaught. Goblin ambushes led by dwarves! It seems that the dwarves have some limited ability to avoid the traps. Fortunately we prevailed. One dwarf was shot and the other appeared to have chosen the wrong spot to fall unconscious after a brief struggle with our unarmed axedwarf, who was fleeing the encounter. More traps were installed to combat this new threat.
However we have almost finished hollowing out the eastern section of the chamber. Thanks to our vacillating, this will involve a lot of channeling and the brewer has just suffered some injuries.
Now there are massive amounts of stones lying around, so there's no turning back.
Built Blocks: 867
The Challenge: Construct a mega fortress without immigrants!
With all the stone lying around, the usually designation highlight becomes hidden. Fortunately the brewer is superdwarvenly tough and escapes with only some broken bones. Even though the other dwarves are still too busy to pick him up, he seems to have healed from the light wounds almost immediately.
An axedwarf was also caught in the blast but was totally unhurt. - Jong89

The entrance design is a no-frills air lock and maze combo. When the alarm is sounded, the yellow bridge is shut to force invaders to pass the numerous traps in the maze, while fleeing dwarves can still safely escape. The fortified walls enable marksdwarves to shoot at any goblins that manage to avoid the traps.
The roads are all constructed out of floors, so there is ample room for trap growth.
Of special note is the funnel traps used to force invaders outside the fort to follow a set path. Traps placed at the chokepoints are far more effective than normal.
The pressure plate / spike trap is specially design to combat mass charges. The spikes are capable of piercing any number of creature on tile, so melee soldiers need to avoid fighting in that zone. The spacing also knocks out invaders adjacent to the triggering one. - Jong89

Here are the modest accommodations of the dwarves. It will probably be a long time before we start work on the living spaces of the fortress. - Jong89

This is the currently incomplete tower cap chamber.
The only thing of note at the moment is the monumental scale of the design. - Jong89
