Ceilingact - 304 Early Spring by Phlamethrower

Map Description:

Orcs at last! A surprise seige in the winter claimed the lives of several of my ill-equipped wrestlers. Although the fortress has enjoyed large migrant waves up until now, I have a feeling our fortune has just changed.

The mining squad has recently been expanded from two to seven, and will spend much of the coming year searching for magma-safe materials with which to construct the doomsday device.

Point of Interest: Operation GET WELL SOON

After seeing that one of the wrestlers who survived the orc attack was heavily wounded, I diverted the miners from their exploratory mining to the more important task of creating a well to act as a source of water for the wounded.

If my information is correct, collapsing these ice floors will transform them into water, which will then be collected in the funnel-shaped pit below.

If my information is incorrect, then at least the mayor will now have a sunroof in his apartment... - Phlamethrower

Operation GET WELL SOON was a complete success!

By which I mean it failed.

Although it succeeded in generating lots of water and killing a kitten, the water then promptly ran straight down the funnel and out a hole in the bottom of the map.

Well, you learn something new every day.

You managed to make a mini chasm by accident? How freaking cool is that.

Do Dwarves actually freeze if their beds aren't close to magma?

Sealing the fort with magma... ?

Well, it keeps the orcs out.

Everyone died, BTW. A goblin seige turned up just as the last baby died, so the goblins ended up claiming victory.
