Weaverwalls - 308 Mid Autumn by Stromko

Map Description:

I set out with the idea of starting on top of a mountain and ramping down in order to create a huge crater, with a spire in the center of natural stone from where my dwarves could slaughter adversaries with a hail of bolts.

I ended up only ramping down about 8 levels, partly because ramping the ground is very laggy and partly because the logistics can be a little tricky.

Trivia: Since I dug out every one of 35 Z levels, the original export of the image took up 1.4 gigs on disk. SL's converter cut it down to 222 kbs. Wow.

Trivia 2: When first I decided to abandon this fort, I wanted to see it fail in some 'legitimate' fashion, so I removed one section of the tower near the ground so that everything on top would fall one Z-level, remaining mostly intact (But I wanted to see if the dwarves would all take falling / collapse injuries and start a tantrum spiral). after leaving DF sitting for about 10 minutes at a time, this collapse always seemed to just lock it up so I gave up on that idea. :)

Point of Interest: The Top

Originally this level was one of the mountain peaks, and the highest Z level of the mountain. The dwarves dug down from here. The extensions to the NW,NE,SE,SW are artificially constructed walls/floors for marksdwarf towers so they could reach out and touch the gobbos. - Stromko

You can download the compressed map file: 2009-04/stromko-Weaverwalls-save1-308-24283.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
