Newcastle - 115 Mid Spring by Mrok Girl

Map Description:

Half-year update on the megaproject.

Point of Interest: Chamber B

The dome is complete!!!
But the Chamber is not yet. There's lots of stair deconstruction to be done, paving the floor with Alunite and Lead and finally letting that magma and water flow! I still have a few levels of stairs left to figure out what to do with the brook.
I run into an interesting problem though, when I designate big patches of stuff to deconstruct, my pause fps drops from ~1500 to 200 after a while and I have problems turning the computer off. Curious. - Mrok Girl

Black line, something to do with DF exporting the map before compressing.

i assume you intended name it after Newcastle.

Yes, I love circles :)
And yes, I did intend to name it after Newcastle in UK. It's where our rp game of Mage: the Awakening is taking place. All the dwarves here (except some of the kiddies) are named after the player characters and the NPCs from that game of which you can read here.

Thanks for the comments!

I just noticed the scale of the dig... *fast forwards a year*

... cave pool in the way, planning to move that? :)
Seemingly epic construction, I just found the existing tower at the end of a long tunnel. How old is this fort?

About.. 5 years? Can't remember if it starts in 100 or 101.

Still not sure what to do with the cave pool. I want to get rid of it from there but it's also a nice source of cave lobster shell. I have time untill the big cavern is dug out to decide.

8 FPS now with the traders and goblin ambushers around... this will take forever ^^'

You could clear everyone out, drain the pool to the bottom of the chamber, then rebuild the broken section. Perhaps turn that section of ramps at the bottom into a little island. It would be fun for an adventurer to look around!

Why is it all made of stairs?

Submitted by: Mrok Girl - 2009-02-25 to 108 Mid Spring

It's made of stairs so that hollowing it out will be safer and easier. It takes more time than ramps but at least this way I can see where I'm going :)

The dome is amazing, but I think my favorite highlight is the "ZY" carved several z-levels into the ground.

Chamber B is coming along very well, the central support is a work of art its its own right.

This is going to look sick. IN a good way.

Problems?

Do you only see a blank space?

Don't have Flash?
You can download the compressed map file: 2009-03/mrokgirl-Newcastle-region16-115-5488.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
