Axerise - 255 Mid Autumn by Razin

Point of Interest: Prisons, Breeding Chambers, And Scenic Views

I've made several improvements to the open air courtyard / kitchen level. In addition to the new milling station, I've added a room to house all those stray livestock I had wandering about. As I get new births, I'll tweak the population mixes to increase the birth rate, and hopefully keep a more steady supply of bones and meat.

I've also decided to fill in the areas under the overhang from the wall level above with prison cells, which you see the first three off, doubled up on chains to keep my Captain of the Guard happy. This, and the rooms I'm adding on the floor below (which is nearly totally paved!) should hopefully make the walls seem more solid then they do now, and it also has the benefit of being sensibly close to the barracks. Would you stage a prison riot is you knew that, on the other side of that door, marksdwaves with itchy trigger fingers were waiting in a bunker?

The windowed rooms to the east are the rooms set aside for my Captain of the Guard. To make up for the lack of engravings, he gets gem windows, which let him observe the landscape outside the tower, and keep a better eye on his wards.

In addition to preparing more rooms for the jail, I'm going to build a second, smaller, open air tower for all that refuse to rot in. I could let it just sit out in the open courtyard area, but a menacing tower filled with the rotting pieces of the dead just seems more... dwarfy. - Razin

cool layout, I'd love to see the fort expand upwards half in and half out of the mountain :)

Ahh, ahhh, the microline makes my eyes hurt. Ahhhhh.
Besides that, cool fort, gives a commanding view across the valley. Seems like a good place to build a fort.

Yeah, it's not the most....impressive looking material, but there are pockets of it all over, and there were several times during the construction of the tower were I was running out of other stone types to use. Can't do much about the underground areas, but I'll probably rework the outer tower eventually.

If you wanna change the color, with out ripping your hair out rebuilding everything with a different stone, you can edit it's color tags. (/raw/objects/matgloss_stone_mineral, find the microcline entry and then check out the wiki article on color here: http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Color ).

Also, you don't have that many bags. You're going to want more if you ever really start producing glass things on a large scale.

You can download the compressed map file: 2009-02/razin-Axerise-Goldmine-255-24953.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
