Citybite - 376 Early Spring by Phrog

Map Description:

The fortress has finally hit stride and keeps marching forward, getting more complicated and more intricate every step of the way. A siege hasn't hit yet but there have been thieves and ambushes so it is only a matter of time before the fort's first real test. Judging from the last fight, my 4 champion wrestlers will likely be more than up to the task now that they actually have equipment.

6th Granite, 376: The dwarves are beginning to adapt to being in the dark all the time. I'm surprised it took as long as it has. I'm starting to see vomit in the farming fields, so there goes that idea.

1st Slate, 376: More migrants have come to join our burgeoning ranks. Among them are the dungeon master (who smells suspiciously of cheetos and Mountain Dew), 6 peasants, 2 armorers, a cheese maker, a dyer, a trapper, a milker, a bone carver, a siege operator, a siege engineer, a metalsmith, a fishery worker, a clothier, 2 carpenters, a fish dissector, a mule, 2 puppies, 2 kittens, 2 donkey foals, and a cow calf. Of course, during all of this the goblins ambushed us right at the entrance where all the migrants were funneling through. Amazingly not a one was seriously injured as my wrestlers who had been training hammer skills showed up just in time. Luckily most of these dwarves are useless enough to draft straight into the military. Seeing how the recruits are going up against champions in sparring, there may be... accidents.

5th Slate, 376: It appears all of our goblin friends suddenly dying at our fortress are starting to earn renown for our champions. Mistên "Skinnyshoot" Afenkeskal, the first to become a champion of this fortress, is also the first to claim a title. His particular title is Rikkirlotol Boshut: the Whiskered Order of Alliance. He claims six kills thusfar and it is likely that with increasing goblin hostility he will have the opportunity for many more.

4th Malachite, 376: It seems that the newly-elected mayor Urvad Mozidbucim's position has gone to his head. He has mandated the construction of giant toad bone items. The illustrious mayor fails to realize that there are no giant toads to be found anywhere within a thousand miles of here. I foresee our jail cells which have done little but gather dust will finally get some use.

27th Limestone, 376: We had a near-death experience with one of our gifted miners. Ducim Katthirtosid almost drowned while deepening the brook to make way for water wheels to power pumps for the future moat. Luckily she managed to stay afloat long enough for another miner to carve out a quick staircase. If only their brains were as good as their pick-arms.

Its gonna be hard to stay away from that cave considering how huge it is.

It won't be hard to stay away because of the size. The map has plenty of room. However, it will be hard to stay away because of the temptation of sending in some dwarves to stir up some mayhem.

So how is your "Cave extermination unit" doing. I still see some trolls dwelling down there. (be sure to make a vid of your dwarfs going through the tunnels killing everything in their way.)

I've been deliberating if I want to send in the troops (the Granite Bells again. They have the best equipment, skills, and some thirty kills to their name including one dwarf with twelve) or if I want to flood the entire cave with magma for hilarity's sake. Sending the troops in would be fun, but I'd also have to worry about forbidding everything in there beforehand so civilians don't go running in blindly. Then I'll have to manage a bunch of hauling jobs that the slaughter would invariably create (or, again, I could forbid the hell out of everything). Right now I'm leaning towards nuking the cave from orbit and letting Armok sort them out. Hey, at least the fort will have awesome engravings of everything melting if I do!
