Mid summer, about a year later. In year 5 at the moment. Things are going quite nicely.
Just an experiment with organic/natural looking bedrooms. I also used ramps to add another level of bigger, better bedrooms. - juice

Wah, cool... I really like the tree farms, I can imagine crawling down there to hear the distant gushing of water and the muddy smell and sound of vegetation growing deep underground.

how did you go about creating "organic" bedrooms?

I just kinda randomly dug out little hollows until i got a shape that I liked and stuck with.

Nice tree farms, how is the harvest from them?
I've tried a few giant ones before, but after 3 to 4 years they had only produced maybe 10 tower caps.

The harvest is pretty massive, something like 40-50 trees per year if I stay on top of it. I'm starting to have trouble using all my wood unless I start mass constructing barrels/bins... ;o
Perhaps it's time for some clear glass!

It's forts like these that remind me why I'll never be an architect.
ed: Ok this is REALLY bothering me. How the hell do you transfer power from the plant to anywhere else? All your watermills link up to that central gear and then what? It looks like it just ends there, wtf?

Fear not, you aren't crazy. The central power plant isn't actually hooked up to anything yet. If you go up to level 29, directly above where the central gear is, you'll see a power routing room that I built ages ago to be able to transfer the power to different areas of the fortress. Eventually that room will be full of gears and axles connecting power to whatever area of the fortress may need it.
At the moment though I've been getting by just manually operating pumps to fill areas.

Great fortress, if a little spread out. But what were you thinking making those dwarf bedrooms on the SURFACE? Blasphemous. Hope you survived the ????? to continue with that giant megaproject (can't really tell what it's gonna be...more tcaps?)
