Freenet - 1056 by Lord Qyburn

Map Description:

Took a bit of a break from Dwarf Fortress, but now I'm back and on to year 6 of Eshemkib/Freenet.

The nobles have finally started arriving again. I've now got the broker and the Governor. I've also done about all the housing I'll need as any more dwarves will either be nobles or sleeping in the barracks. In addition, I've smoothed out all parts of the fortress that are regularly travelled.

I'm beginning to work on getting my military up to snuff, and have begun large scale steel forging operations. Everyone is already equipped with steel weapons and shields, and I'm just a few suits away from having a military armed entirely in steel plate.

The goblins still haven't sieged yet, which is fortunate as my mayor insists on banning the export of all iron items. One siege and I'll be swimming in [narrow iron masks].

The massive channel system at the bottom is the first part of a soon to be established system of waterfalls, which serves to both piss off the so far fairly calm chasm dwellers and also adds a nice aesthetic touch to my cliff-catacombs.

You know... you really don't have to scribble all over your map :) this site does have a 'points of interest' system so that you can add labels and descriptions of places after you've uploaded.

My main concern is actually the filesize, the compression doesn't work so well if the image isn't tile-based, but oh well; the map is still only 104KB!

Lord Qyburn, I would add a channel outside the Forge of Justice... if a fireimp should ever come and visit you could risk a permaflood. I like the style of the thing tho, a grand prison no doubt.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that. Shouldn't disrupt my plans though, as I planned to aqueduct water over the chasm to make some waterfalls for my future noble crypts (and to piss off the antmen).

In my defense, I did at least have the foresight to trap the entrance to the lever room, in case a gremlin got that far.

I also Love your Forge of Justice.

(Lord Qyburn, I removed the excess back-slashes's from your fortress description. I'll have to fix the submission form to stop that hapenning in future.)

Fortress is looking good now, the windmill and magma prison as well.

That artifact name is so awesome, and it fits the actual item well.

I always get stupid artifacts. >:c

I mostly do. My first artifact was a cedar chair decorated with bands of pine...

You can download the compressed map file: local_map-4-1056-5.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
