Another goblin siege appeared in spring. I hope they don't attack every single season. That'd be too much. Ah, well. More than double the forces from last time turned up, and they pretty much destroyed the military units that attempted to face them.
Then they hit the traps, which broke the siege. I should definitely make more of those - the attempt to invade left a lot of spare weapons lying around...
Casualties? Uh... lots. Twelve during the siege, but another recruit bled to death some time later on.

The dwarf who mooded late last year went insane for lack of... probably metal bars. Pity, as he wanted a lot of material - probably would have produced something good.
Late spring, yet another metalsmith moods - this time I happily have the magma furnace and forge set up. It didn't take him long to claim the forge, primarily because he was sitting there in the first place. He rather happily creates iron chain mail, and becomes a legendary armoursmith. That'll be useful.

Spring's wave of immigrants brought with it the Philosopher of my favourite nobles because he has absolutely no special requirements.

A batman sprung from ambush. Got torn to pieces by cows. Later on, a fire imp jumped from the lava and burnt a peasant to death before the military and/or pets could get to it. Almost immediately afterwards another batman fell to the pet brigade.

It may look like the new 'Dead Goblins' counter has a lot on it, but that includes both the siege early this year, the one late last year, and the dead goblin thieves, too. Hence the lack of recorded increase.

Just as a point of advice, and since you seem to be fairly new to DF, your exploratory tunnels to find iron are bit less than efficient, if that's their sole goal. You'll notice that that platinum seam you've already uncovered spans 50+ tiles and so too will iron, most likely. Sending probe shafts up 20-30 tiles apart will find you the iron (and everything else) quicker. I usually have it located by my third year and I tend to look for it more casually than most.

Of course, if your goal is to uncover gems or level up miners to later draft them into the army, then this works, but may actually be detrimental to your army as they need iron to gear up, I think.

Inefficiency noted, but I could always use more gems as at least a quarter of my mooding dwarves demand them at some point.
And won't be pacified with glass.

I'm so going to have add a 'stats' section to the map submission form if you're going to continue posting facts and figures like that about your fort.

That's an insanely windy path you've dug out, are you planning on making your fort a labarynth?

Was that expected when you cross the magma fissure? ^_^

Great read so far. Have you given up on this fortress then?
