Treatychances - 202 Mid Summer by Phlamethrower

Map Description:

Treatychances, desert fortress.

This is the personal diary of Dastot Dodóklerteth, acting expedition leader.

Sometime ago, perhaps over a year now, a group of peasants, of which I was one, became seperated from the rest of their caravan and became lost in the desert. Knowing that it would be several months until the next caravan came, we only had one choice - survive, and hope that the caravan finds us.

Survive we did, and find us the caravan did - but the mountainhome liasion leading the caravan did not allow us to join his ranks. Orders of the king, he said. Too many dwarves are becoming lost in this desert, he said. You must build an outpost here, he said. Build a tower, taller than the skies themselves, so that any dwarves lost in the desert will know the way to safety.

I protested. We all protested. The caravan left.

So be it. A tower we must build. For the glory of Armok!

Point of Interest: Subterranean fort

This is our home, for now. The earth here is hot, far too hot for comfortable living.

The workers on the upper levels of the tower claim that there is a cool breeze there. We shall move our accommodation into the tower and see how better we fare. - Phlamethrower

If you intend the tower to be that wide, it'll look more like a squat warehouse than a tower. I found that with the several stupidly large towers I build. Unless they are very narrow (Like 10 or so tiles along each side) it looks like a cube rather than a tower D:

Well, dwarves are quite short. It will look like a tall tower to them :)

Δ 15. Jail

The heat is driving the dwarves mad. At least two lives have been lost so far. The sheriff recommends we build a jail, in an attempt to better contain this madness. - Phlamethrower
Δ 15. The tower

The base of our mighty tower. Walls as thick as kobolds, and twice as tall. Much work is still to be done if this tower is to be as tall and grand as the king desires. - Phlamethrower
Δ 14. Barracks

This small room currently serves as the barracks for the military, the dining room, and the collective bedroom for the entire fort. There are no trees at all in this hellish land, so until a more favourable caravan passes our way these are the best sleeping arrangements we can provide. - Phlamethrower
Δ 14. Bones
The one thing we have in abundance here, apart from heat, sand, and rock, is bones. Our craftsdwarves are working round the clock to turn these bones into bolts and armour, valuable items in defending our fort against invaders. For we know that both kobolds and goblins are nearby, and as the tower grows taller it will not only be the dwarves that are drawn towards it. - Phlamethrower

This is the most important building in the fort. Without it, and without the attached farms, we would surely die. It is a miracle that we have survived so long, for there is no rainfall and no drinking water for many miles around. - Phlamethrower

Building the tower requires a lot of rock, all of which is extracted from these mines.

By some miracle we are also finding pockets of precious gems; these will surely be instrumental in securing vital supplies from the trade caravans. - Phlamethrower
