I've had some of the worst luck these past couple years. After the humans left, that winter I was sieged by the goblins which was easily defeated. Once the humans came around again, I signed peace and it was fairly smooth sailing up until autumn. I almost did starve all my dwarfs because almost no one was working the farms, but I managed to fix that by autumn.
Autumn brought a bronze colossus who promplty found some gorillas to kill which led him straight to the enterance to my fortress. This was my first ever large monster I've had to deal with which was fine. I just wish he started a little bit away from my fortress.
He's killed about 40 people so far including a legendary miner and an elite marksdwarf, and seems to be stuck where he is, thankfully.

Channels are so much better then doors. I usually go with channels just inside farm rooms and doors in their usual positions.
