It has been some time since my last update.
I struck adamantine. Praising the miners, we pursued further into the adamantine vein. Little did we know what horrors awaited us in the pits. An ominous sky set over the fortress as we broke into a wall that held us from the underworld. The two miners that broke the wall saw unspeakable horrors. There were chained dwarves, humans and elves. All of them had the same quality, however... they were lifeless. Though their bodies still moved, their eyes were dead. They had had their souls ripped from them.
As the miners ran from the unspeakable horrors of the deep, I prepared my military. I had heard stories of what came from the pits... I did not want to be caught off guard. I had my marksdwarves stationed, and my axedwarves heading the melee assault. There was a passage carved for the demons to come at us from. Frog demons. Around 20 of them. I lost 10 dwarves, and each of them was buried. One demon who had the ability to spit fire... he killed three dwarves. The engravers have carved stories telling of that demon. I will not grace it with a name.
After the bloody battle, we took the pits. I am in the process of starving the depraved souls that were in the pits... then I shall reclaim them for my own personal benefit. All in all, I gained much, and lost much. It was a Phyrric Victory. We gained much adamantine... nearly 110 raw stones of it... but we lost almost 15 dwarves. My miners are dead. The remainder of the fortress has gotten over their losses, and is rebuilding. Gods help us.

very nice, interesting entrance you have, looks like it could turn out to be a good fort.
is that a dead kobold out side?

I assume so. I was attacked by Kobolds in 208.
