Got screwed on the caravan because I forbade all bauxite from the stocks screen, and my depot is bauxite. The wagons couldn't path so all I got was a couple of mules carrying 3 bins of leather and some trinkets.
At least I finally found some good ore. A magnetite lode with a platinum vein.
I also built a bunch of screw pumps set to manual in the archery ranges, and almost all my dwarves have pump operation active. I've had a few ambushes at this point, none too critical but military is starting to become a concern. Now that I have iron finally I can start raising an army properly.

The small room to the northwest has an open space for dumping into the magma, with a fortification around the exposed pipe to let marksdwarves shoot at any magma or fire men that flow through the fortification which taps the magma pipe. I don't think they *can* destroy a bauxite floodgate, but I'm taking no chances.
There's a boustrophedonic pipe underneath, which I'll dig out bit by bit as I need to add more magma workshops. North and south is future stockpile space. - metasynthetic
