Steelmaster - 131 Early Spring by metasynthetic

Map Description:

Eh, screw the in character writing. So one full year has passed, and the fortress is going well so far. Most of the trading hall is dug out, with ramps along the edge of the moat until I can deepen it one more level and build bridges across it. I've excavated a small portion of the barracks level to provide temporary quarters for the first immigrant wave which should be arriving soon. I'm leaving a couple of levels above that bare for waterworks / future military projects.

Speaking of which, I eventually want to completely level the surface, and build an inner and outer ring of walls. I'll build a series of bridges from the inner ring to the outer ring, leaving enough room at the edges for immigrants and caravans, then flood the region between them. The result will be a giant above ground donut shaped lake, with bunkers full of siege weapons pointed down each bridge to take out invading forces. Assuming I don't just drop them in the lake. It shall be glorious.

Powering this will either be an underground waterwheel complex, or windmills if the cave river isn't suitable. In my last fortress I got the hang of using fortifications to make impenetrable fluid interchanges, which should be handy for that.

The only problem I can think of would be the water evaporating as the flood radius expands. I could solve that with some sort of boustrophedonic or spiral channel system, but that sounds annoying to build.

Anyway, plans for the immediate future are to establish the permanent farms (underway), dining hall, food stockpiles, and food / butcher / textile complex.

A rose gold spear? Ooh, I'd kill for one of those! What was it called?

"Palacemountain". Relatively sensible, actually.

You learn something new every day, and today's something is "Boustrophedon". :) That's some serious metalworking setup you've got there.
