Steelmaster - 130 Early Summer by metasynthetic

Map Description:

Spring has passed us, and summer is here. The dry times have come, and almost too soon - in our rush to break the earth, we nearly forgot to dig a cistern to preserve what little fresh water is available. What we have is not much, but it is enough for our small band to get by.

Living quarters and farms have been dug, with an above-ground farm under construction. Rith has spotted a giant eagle circling over the northern forest, so it seems prudent to add a roof to our farm. (The need of surface plants for sunlight has been greatly exaggerated.) Our weaponsmith Thikut thought it wise to carve wooden crossbows and shields as well, in case the roof does not ward off its interest. Leaf-bones are hardly worthy of such an honor, but we have not the metal to spare for better.

Keeping with tradition, as soon as the necessities of life were secured, we made preparations for death as well; tombs have been dug into a nearby outcropping of rock which seemed well-suited. Later, when we have more time, we shall go back and engrave our clan, bloodline, and family histories as is right, but for now we have more pressing matters.

Athel the architect has drawn up the plans for our grand hall, and Kel now labors to shape the rock accordingly. The hall is shaped for both majesty and security. The entrance corridor has several repeating ramps, which limit attacking archer's line of fire. They will also be connected to floodgates of alternating water and magma, which will ensure that even if mighty demons and dragons attack, they will have to be able to breathe both water and fire. The ceilings dip as well, preventing flying creatures from circumventing the flood defenses.

The central area shall house a trade depot at the bottom, below surface level, behind protective ramps which allow for marksmen to shoot across the moat without exposing guests to fire. The perimeter shall be encircled with defensive fortifications as well, allowing invaders no cover. Flanking the inner doorway to the heart of the fortress shall be two waterfalls. Athel also muttered something about contingencies for dealing with ungrateful guests at the depot, but he often says strange things when he's drawing up floorplans drunk.

The HTML5 map viewer is currently in Alpha mode - I'm actively trying to develop new functionality.

There should be many very obvious problems with the viewer; please check the Issues page to notify or comment on the most egregious problems to help me prioritise. The most common will be Loading... with an error in the browser developer tools console. e.g. RangeError: Offset is outside the bounds of the DataView. Feel free to report a problem with a link to the problematic map or point of interest.

A rose gold spear? Ooh, I'd kill for one of those! What was it called?

"Palacemountain". Relatively sensible, actually.

You learn something new every day, and today's something is "Boustrophedon". :) That's some serious metalworking setup you've got there.
