Slinghammers - 1055 Mid Winter by A_Fey_Dwarf

Map Description:

The purpose of Slinghammers is to create a custom goblin tower where thousands upon thousands of goblins, beak dogs and trolls reside. I will cage these monsters in DF mode. I will then abandon the fortress and when I come back in adventure mode hopefully the legions of enemies will be released. This shall be amusing.

The population has hit the cap of 100 dwarves. However this high pop count combined with the flow of magma into the lava moat has reduced my FPS to a crippling 12 frames per second. The lava moat is still not filled up, but it is nearing completion so hopefully this will boost my FPS. If not I might have to do some population culling to speed up the process of building a goblin tower.

CURRENT NEWS
A)We now have >100 goblins, and the goblins are still coming in steadily at about 2 sieges per year and 3 ambushes.

B)I have kitted out my guard (both royal and fortress) with Black bronze body armor and golden armor else wear (gauntlets, greaves etc).

C)I accidentally collapsed part of the mining area in when making a second lava pool. Luckily I hadn't poured in any of the dangerous stuff and my miners were alright.

D)The newly arrived nobles have started demanding some very unobtainable items. For example the Baron has demanded some Rage-Iron items. The mayor has also demanded Froststeel items. I have no idea how to make these magic infused metals so this will ultimately end up with the hammerer beating on some unsuspecting peasants.

E) We have caught a hydra. I have no idea what to do with this hydra as it might kill all of the goblins when I set it free later on. Is it worth the risk of hooking it up to the lever? Or should I just use it as part of my population culling devise to improve the frame rate.

What a charming black obsidian fort you have there...

be sure to release all the captives from their cages BEFORE you abandon, otherwise the creatures will still be in the cages, and quite possibly, die there as well. also, do this during a goblin seige, and then abandon.

Immense.

If it were me I'd give the hydra its own room... with lava. Nothing says adventure more then getting knocked in to a pool of lava by a distraught hydra after all.

Beautiful fortress. Elegant, simple and efficient. A shame you're going to abandon it to the goblins. Nice starting location, too - right next to a volcano but still nice and flat. How long did that take to find?
