My new fortress is beginning to come together. I am yet to meet any goblins as my wealth has stayed low, but that will probably change when i get the magma industry up and running. My main means of defense will be numerous cage traps. Hopefully I can cage hundreds of goblins, beak dogs and trolls. I will then abandon the fortress and when I come back in adventure mode hopefully the legions of enemies will be released. This shall be amusing.

What a charming black obsidian fort you have there...

be sure to release all the captives from their cages BEFORE you abandon, otherwise the creatures will still be in the cages, and quite possibly, die there as well. also, do this during a goblin seige, and then abandon.

Immense.
If it were me I'd give the hydra its own room... with lava. Nothing says adventure more then getting knocked in to a pool of lava by a distraught hydra after all.

Beautiful fortress. Elegant, simple and efficient. A shame you're going to abandon it to the goblins. Nice starting location, too - right next to a volcano but still nice and flat. How long did that take to find?
