See, this is why I don't like elves. They pretend to be all tree-huggy, but infact they're sculpting unholy flowers above burning pits of magma deep within mountains. Evil I tell you. EEEVVIILL.

Nice elven fortress! That's a neat above ground area, blocked off from attacks, and I like the volcano design.

How do you propose to get an underground forest?

By muddying the area next to the river with pumps and clearing out all the rocks with a dump zone.
