Ceilingweakened - 1057 Early Spring by Basilisk

Map Description:

This is my first fortress. The area is warm and choked with trees. There isn't anything to support an iron industry, but there is plenty of silver, slate, and granite. Not that any of those are very useful.

Point of Interest: Main Entrance

This is where my dwarves first struck the earth. The embark site was a bit to the east, where a stone stockpile currently is. Many of the rooms in this area used to be workshops, but those have been moved deeper inside the fortress. - Basilisk

Δ 17. East Checkpoint
This structure is similar to the west checkpoint, but it's much farther away from the fortress. A road was constructed to the north, and a winding tunnel connects it with the rest of the fortress. - Basilisk
Δ 17. West Checkpoint
This checkpoint guards the west side of the map. It was originally constructed so that while the road to the south was being built, workers could come inside to grab stockpiled stone and perhaps rest for a while. Later, a ballista was built, and a pair of training catapaults one level up. There is also a barracks a couple floors below, and a trapped hall that leads to the rest of the fortress. - Basilisk

This dining room has a traditional horseshoe-shaped table, surrounted by chairs and then statues. This is one of the more popular rooms in the fortress. - Basilisk

Isn't it beautiful? I don't know how the dwarves can stand this bright-blue mineral everywhere. - Basilisk
Δ 15. South Tunnel
This tunnel was carved out to allow caravans to enter from the south. It's lined with traps farther up, and to the east is a waterwheel that powers another project. - Basilisk
Δ 15. Throne Room
This is the throne room I created to satiate all my nobles. Every square is engraved, though I used orthoclase instead of gold for all the yellow items. - Basilisk
Δ 15. Tiny Jail

This jail was constructed mainly to keep my sheriff happy. The death rate is currently 75%. Other dwarves like hanging out here. - Basilisk

Currently unfinished, the catacombs were dug under the old graveyard, at the request of unhappy dwarves whose friends hadn't been buried yet.

One level below are the planned tombs where more important dwarves will be buried. - Basilisk
Δ 13. Waterworks Well Project

Did you know that pumps block pressure? In order to create a well near my dwarves' living quarters, I had to bring water down a couple floors, without creating pressure that would flood the entire fortress.

If you look up a couple levels, you'll see where the gear assemblies connect to the waterwheel. To the north is where the water pipe goes beneath a tunnel and back up to an x-shaped cistern, which has the well above it. - Basilisk
Δ 9. Central Mining Shaft

This set of stairways is sunk al the way to the bottom level of this region. This mining expedition is responsible for most of the gems and precious metals I've found. - Basilisk
