This is a fort I started in 1085 using adjuststart to begin with 150 dwarves. After the establishment of the food-processing and crafts area, I built a long wall around the entire map area. There have been a few goblin sieges thus far, and relatively few casualties.
Wood is a scarce resource. It does grow very rapidly on this map, but my usage of wood far outstrips the rate at which it grows. I anticipate that the elves will be quite displeased.
Much of the usage of wood has been allocated towards charcoal production. The charcoal has been used extensively for smelting and making glass. The fortress now possesses approximately 700 glass blocks and the construction of a new glass tower will commence within several years.

It goes up and up and up.... and I wouldn't say wood is a scarce resource, you have consumed vast quantities of the stuff... ! You're lucky it grows at such a rate, I don't know what you'd do without it. x.x

Well, wood is relatively scarce compared to demand. It doesn't grow nearly fast enough to satisfy my glass industry.
If this were a market economy, the price of wood would be skyrocketing. I'm lucky that this is a command economy.
