The tree farm area to the southwest is finally ready, instead of manually channeling out the area I did a controlled collapse with a lever-linked support. I'm working on expanding my walls with guard towers and raising their height, and the very beginnings of a proper tower fortress straddling the river.
I also built a sniper tower in the heart of my base so I can more easily snipe the Giant Peach-faced Lovebirds that scare my workers every few months. 'Oh no there's a big bird thirty z-levels above me I can't work in these conditions.' My dwarves can occasionally snipe the wings off a Giant Flyer, but I imagine they'll do it a bit faster a bit higher.
