Thanks, Mport requested not to die in the river, so I'm making sure he does not :p
Side note, I left the unfinished spaces on purpose - the river won't wash dwarves up into them and they can still be used for drinking and fishing.

FYI, the enclosed yard around the 'g'ate point is too close too the entrance to be effective. Dwarves (and animals/pets) wander within some 20 tiles of the gate. Your current yard will keep probably 2/3 to 3/4 of them safe, but quite a few will still feel compelled to sit on the road just north of the channel.

Yeah, I realized that after it was too late and everything was dug out. I usually build the trade depot a bit higher so there is more room but I decided to try it a little different this time.
No worries though, it will keep dwarves safe from the damn monkeys, ogres, and werewolves and if goblins siege I can just set only military allowed out mode.
