Watchdiamonds - 211 Early Autumn by mounf

Map Description:

Year 10 of watchdiamonds. An attempt to build an outdoor fortress by carving it out of the side of a cliff.

Currently the dining hall, glassmakers and metalworkers guilds are in use. Work is on-going to move food production and then all remaining storage and industry out of the temporary fort so excavation can begin to expose the main fort.

Point of Interest: Great Hall dining area

The dining area. Here Dwarfs can dine in the comforting glow of magma. Staircases West and East of the 2 support columns lead down to the food and drink storage cellars. To the north ramps lead up to the skyway and access to the industrial ward. To the south is a ramp which will lead to the military tower when it is built. - mounf

Wow this i s gigantic !! good idea to build a bridge to protect the fortification !! brilliant work.. how old is you fortress ?

It's now 21 years old (started in year 200). Thanks, I can't remember where I came across the use of bridges to protect Marksdwarves, but given the amount of damage a couple of elite missile goblins can do it's proven very useful in the past!

I like how the trap walkway reduces into supports the further down you go.

Δ 100. Dining Hall Front elevation
The shape of the main hall and roof dome can clearly be seen. To the right are the excavations in preperation to dropping 3 layers of soil to food storage/preperation level.

Up and to the left can be found the old fort which is slowly being emptied out. - mounf

Showing the diing hall from the side, the 2 support columns are clearly visible. To the right is the huge cliff that made this the site for Watchdiamonds! - mounf
Δ 68. Outside entrance
Currently the main entrance. This area is usually decorated in a blood and goblin bits motif, but has been cleared up for frame rate reasons. The trap field has rarely been used due to the high quality of the militia. - mounf
Δ 67. Temp fort - Kitchens
The food and alchohol preperation area. Soon to be moved nearer to the great hall cellars. To the east is Goblin storage and pitting for the entertainment of our Marksdwarfs. - mounf
Δ 66. Main entrance and Barracks
Entrance and Barracks for Melea dwarfs. The 2 elite squads practice on this level. Above are 2 more baracks levels for the training squads. - mounf
Δ 66. Marksdwarf barracks
Temporary barracks for 2 crossbow and 1 bow squad. Archery range is one level up, along with access stairs to defensive towers. - mounf
Δ 66. Temp fort - Hospital
So far my dwarfs have got by with this small temporary hospital. to the east is the water supply, fed by asyphon from the river. To the west is the old dining area, now a temporary memorial hall. - mounf
Δ 66. Temp fort - wood/clothing industries.
The wood and clothing industries will be moved out as soon as the kitchens are finished. - mounf
Δ 63. Temporary quarters #2
Second region of temporary quarters. Mostly for military (mainly put in to chear them up after an unfortunate uniform/nudity error). - mounf
Δ 62. Industrial ward magma reservoir
Top level of the magma reservoir which provides a ready supply of magma to the industrial ward. North can be seen some of the temporary worker accomodations. - mounf
Δ 57. Glass makers guild
The furnace hall of the glass makers guild. Below this are the store rooms for sand, the sand mining room and storage for pearlash and rock crystal. Once dug out many of the smooth walls will be replaced with clear glass. - mounf
Δ 53. Metalworkers guild forge level
The West and East forge halls of the metal workers guild. Work to smooth and engrave the rest of the walls will wait until the guild building is excavated and exposed. The 2 staicases leed to storage rooms and down to the smelting hall. - mounf

Δ 40. Great Hall cellers
3 levels of cellers lie beneath the great hall. This level holds the food stockpile along with some temporary storage areas for furniture and spare containers. Below this is the booze stockpile.

To the south will be the main food production area. - mounf
Δ 39. Powerstation
The powerstation for the fortress pump stacks and millwheels. Suspended over the river which fills the east of the map. - mounf
Δ 34. Temporary quarters #1
Temporary quarters and dormitary. Another area directly below here provides more space. - mounf
Δ 33. Duchess' Quarters
Temporary quarters for Duchess Cog Bustshank (also our mayor). Will eventually have to incorporate millstones. Hopefully then she will stop demanding them. To the east, room is prepared in case of unexpected royal arrivals. - mounf
Δ 25. Old magmaworks
Once the centre of dwarven industry, now mostly abandoned. Glass and metal working have moved to there respective guilds. Only our fire clay ceramics industry still remains here below the first cavern layer. - mounf
