• 93. Fortress Cross-Section

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  I think this gives a decent impression of the overall structure of the fort. You can easily see the deep central pit, the artificial ocean in the third cavern, And bits of the magma sea colony. - itg_

• Δ 48. Magma cistern
  The above ground structure, 10 z-levels high, is cast obsidian, and the cistern extends downward through four layers of aquifer, all the way to the level above the magma sea. When I drained the magma sea, this is where most of it went. I had vague plans for this magma that got put on the back burner once I started the magma sea colony. - itg_
• 40. Entrance

  ( 771 to 901 Mid Spring )
  Dwarves enter the fortress through the staircase in the center of the large pit. In the event of a siege, the bridge to the center may be retracted, forcing the enemies to take the winding retractable path around the edge. It's a ~30 z-level drop. To save time on siege cleanup, enemies now drop directly into the magma sea. - itg_

• 40. Lunar Calendar--Display

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  This the display of the lunar calendar. Because there are exactly 13 full moons in a dwarven year, I added a 13th month to the calendar, called Slade.
  
  The display consists of 315 green glass bridges and several thousand mechanisms. It was a real pain to build. - itg_

  Dwarves can watch goblins plummet to their deaths while they eat. - itg_

  Every dwarf gets a personal coffin in his own bedroom. It seems to reassure them. This is the first and lowest of about 5 levels of bedtombs. - itg_
• 18. Lunar Calendar--Mechanism

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  This is the mechanism for the lunar calendar. The werebeast (one z-level down) triggers a pressure plate every time he transforms, opening the hatches on this level, and sending the minecarts around the loop, which set the bridges of the display. See the forum thread for more details - itg_

• 13. Lava Pit

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  I took out the spikes and channelled out the floor, so now enemies drop directly into the magma sea. It saves a lot of time on cleanup. - itg_

  This is the spike pit into which I drop invaders. It's just above the magma sea, which was surprisingly high on this map. - itg_
• 11. Magma Sea Colony--Entrance

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  This is the entrance to the colony. The mechanism is convoluted, but suffice it to say that a dwarf can ride a minecart across the gap to enter the colony, or he can push a cart across to send supplies - itg_

  This is where the only entrance to the colony will go. The plan is to make the colony inaccessible except by minecart--a compromise between total isolation, making the dwarves inside useless and boring, and unrestricted passage, making the colony no more than a redundant set of extra rooms. - itg_
• 9. Magma Sea Colony--Bedrooms and Forges

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  The bedrooms are arranged in 2-3 z-level pods. Every dwarf/couple gets a nether-cap bed (since it must be pretty toasty under the magma), and two clear glass coffins.
  
  The forge room also contains the colony's water supply, piped in from the aquifer near the surface. - itg_

• 9. Magma Sea Colony--Temple to Armok

  ( 824 Late Summer to 901 Mid Spring )
  Dozens of rutherers, tigers, and hippos were forced to fight to the death in this temple. Then the survivors were impaled on the steel spikes. Even a few dwarf children donated some blood, although they weren't actually killed. The statues feature particularly gruesome and/or spiky deaths. On the second floor is a room full of totems. - itg_

  There are 74 room arranged in mini-towers, accessible by walkways on the top level. On the left is the magma forge area (completed since uploading this map). The forge area contains the colony's water source, as well. - itg_

  Steel furniture and half a dozen artifacts. To the right is a small farm with associated workshops. Food is stored one z-level up - itg_

  I colonized hell by trapping two demons (one from each biome) in drawbridge enclosures. You can see one of them here. No new demons can spawn until these guys leave the map or die, which isn't going to happen. The entire floor of Hell has been engraved. - itg_
