Δ 142. Castle Walls
The walls and fortifications are built to the very top of the sky. Nothing can fly above them, so nothing can enter the fortress without going through the military and gauntlet on the ramps. - hyndis
Δ 138. Barracks
Main line of defense for the fortress.

Invaders are currently turned off, so the garrison is very small and only has to content with the occasional hostile wildlife. Once invasions are turned back on the military will be put back onto active duty. There is a melee squad of ten dwarves using mining picks as their weapon, and six squads of ten dwarves all with crossbows. - hyndis
Δ 138. Border Security
Raised drawbridges will function as walls, and they can be built at the edge of the map.

This forces all visitors to the fortress to appear in the walkable tiles, where my military can greet them and offer proper hospitality. - hyndis
Δ 138. Dodge Trap
Trap currently not in use.

Wooden training spears will be installed in weapon traps, with drawbridges diverting traffic over the narrow ledge. All hostiles will dodge the spears and fall into the pit below for capture and study. - hyndis
Δ 138. Mass Pitting Zone
Anything captured in a cage trap will be hauled here, where it can be safely dumped into the pit for study.

Note that the hatches are locked. This will prevent a flier from escaping the pit back into this room. As a security precaution there are cage traps at the door just in case anything somehow manages to escape. - hyndis

Δ 137. Beach
Ocean waves pile up driftwood on the shore. The mist sometimes drifts over the obsidian castle walls. - hyndis
Δ 137. Capture Pit
Trap currently not in use.

The dodge-me trap above will push invaders into this pit where they can be held for later. - hyndis
Δ 137. Necromancer Viewing Room
Trap currently not in use.

If a necromancer is captured it will be put into this viewing room. The necromancer itself cannot damage glass windows, but it will be able to see into the capture pit through the glass windows.

Beyond the windows are drawbridges linked to a lever which can be opened or closed.

After the bridges are fortifications to protect the viewing room from attack by whatever lurks in the capture pit.

Necromancers can reanimate any corpse they have line of sight to. There is full line of sight to the entire pit from the viewing room. - hyndis
Δ 134. Water Collection
Ocean water is allowed into the fortress at a safe rate here. Note the diagonals to remove water pressure.

The fortress would instantly flood due to the water pressure of the ocean above if the diagonals were not in place as a safeguard. - hyndis

Hidden away in the deep mines the honored dead sleep. - hyndis
Δ 128. Mines
Ore veins were followed for the creation of the winding mine tunnels.

Custom workshops have been placed scattered throughout the mines. These workshops use the mining labor, and can produce gems, stone, or ore with a low probability of success for each job worked.

Should new materials be needed dwarves can always be sent back into the mines to continue working them. - hyndis
Δ 128. Vampire Exile
The vampire queen is in exile deep in the mines. After having fed upon more than 8,000 dwarves, this exile is well deserved! - hyndis
Δ 120. Grand Tunnel
This tunnel with ramps leads from the surface down into the fortress. The tunnel is full of cage traps, which will capture any potential intruders that somehow get past the heavily armed soldiers at the main gate.

The cage traps are not intended to be used for any honorable purposes. They are only to be used to capture any dishonorable invaders that try to flee past the soldiers guarding the main gate. - hyndis
Δ 118. Advanced Education
Custom workshop and reaction, produces useless plants that rot away without generating miasma or hauling jobs.

Allow training of masonry, stone detailing, mechanics, all metalworking jobs, jewel setting, and all healthcare jobs.

Dwarves are trained up to grand legendary status but no higher. They have to learn the extra +1 through +5 levels on their own.

A full course of training may take 10 years to complete. Combine this with the universal education, and a dwarf can spend 15 years in classrooms getting up to speed. Once they graduate they are a mighty dwarf indeed. - hyndis

Δ 118. Bedrooms
Four dwarves each share the same room.

Masterwork silver statues will be installed into the center of each room to boost the room value and give dwarves something to admire or be terrified of, depending on what statue is created. They will be placed entirely at random.

Note the clutter in each room. Currently I'm using DFhack to periodically have all owned items to be dumped. Another possible solution would be to zone the floor as a refuse stockpile that does not accept any kind of refuse. Clothing items dumped onto the floor should just rot away quietly on their own. - hyndis
Δ 118. Butchery
A corpse and refuse stockpile is here, along with butcher workshops and tanner workshops up the stairs.

There is also a mine cart stationed here. The mine cart is loaded up with bones, skulls, hair, horns, nails, pearls, and anything that can be used for decoration. The minecart is then unloaded next to the crafts workshops.

Corpses and body parts are not loaded up into the mine cart. They sit there and await further attention, such as being tossed to the atom smasher or fed to the necromancers. - hyndis
Δ 118. Clothing Production
A single workshop is on repeat producing shirts, trousers, shoes, and cloaks on a continual basis. Next to the workshop is finished goods storage. This storage is zoned as both a refuse stockpile that accepts no items of refuse, and also it accepts only clothing items of any quality.

All clothing will be hauled into this stockpile where it will quietly rot away within bins. Loose clothing is continually brought to this stockpile where it rots away.

If a dwarf needs new clothing they will claim it the instant its produced. As production is continually ongoing, dwarves always have an opportunity to grab new clothing. If none is available, wait 5 seconds and some will be fresh out of the workshop. - hyndis

Includes tables and chairs for dining, a booze stockpile, kitchens, stills, and querns.

Egg laying creatures are pastured here to produce an endless supply of eggs. Omelets for everyone!

Yes those are cave dragons.

Δ 118. Garbage Chute
Garbage is thrown down into the pit where it is atom smashed into nothingness.

The drawbridge is linked to a pressure plate in the well cistern room. Every time a dwarf changes shift working at the pump, he walks over the pressure plate which triggers the drawbridge. The drawbridge only need a very slow repeat cycle. - hyndis

Originally intended to house the monarch and throne room in royal splendor.

When it turned out the monarch had consumed over 8,000 dwarves during her reign, there was a change of plans. The monarch was exiled into the mines. - hyndis

Who needs bins or storage space?

The central stockpile accepts furniture, bars/blocks, wood, weapons, armor, finished goods (not clothing items), refuse (not corpses or body parts), gems, leather, empty cages.

Then the central stockpile is sorted out into 6 nearby 1x1 sized stockpiles, quantum stockpiled using guided mine carts. - hyndis

Accepts all bars, all blocks, and all gems both rough and cut.

Nearby are magma forges and jewel cutter workshops. Includes a custom jewel workshop that allows encrusting of weapons and armor with gems. - hyndis

Furniture is loaded up in this stockpile as well as clay.

Δ 118. Quantum Stockpile, high quality goods
Accepts masterwork finished goods (not clothing), masterwork armor, masterwork weapons (not training weapons or trap components) and some masterwork furniture items (buckets, windows, querns, millstones, traction benches, anvils, statues).

This stockpile is the closest stockpile that holds decoratable items to the workshops that can decorate things. Because of this, these workshops will continually pile up decorations on these items, so the same item can have a full page of decorations from every possible materials on it.

These items are elevated to near artifact status. A single masterwork steel sword may have been in the possession of a dozen dwarves, may have slain a thousand enemies, and may have have inscribed upon it the entire history of civilization, along with recounting innumerable glorious battles. - hyndis
Δ 118. Quantum Stockpile, recyclables
Accepts non-masterwork finished goods (not clothing), armor, and weapons.

Periodically these items are mass designated for melting. This includes any goblinite or rejects from the magma forges. They are recycled and the metal bars sent back over to the forges for reworking.

Note that if you produce coins and then melt down the coins, you end up with more metal bars than you started with. This is a useful way to get plenty of metal to produce things with, if you have enough time and labor. - hyndis

Accepts wood, leather, and refuse that can be used for crafting.

Does not accept body parts, corpses, or refuse items that can otherwise not be used for crafting.

Δ 118. Stone Gathering
Four small stockpiles, each with 3 wheelbarrows, collect stone from all over the fortress. Stone also includes ore.

The stone is then loaded up into the four nearby mine carts. Each cart can hold 5 stone.

Once full the stone is then guided to next to the smelters and mason workshops for easy access.

Ore is then located right next to the smelter, and stone is right next to the masons. Production is fast and efficient. - hyndis

Δ 117. Classrooms
Custom workshop and reactions.

Produces a useless plant item that isn't stored in any stockpile and rots away quietly and without any miasma.

It requires only time, but dwarves can learn a variety of skills here, such as swimming, armor user, block, dodge, learning, teaching, and leadership.

Skills are only learned up until high master but no higher. This prevents a dwarf from getting legendary, but it still provides them a decent education so they can be useful later on.

A full course of education takes about 5 years to complete. - hyndis
Δ 117. Decontamination Pond
The channel is filled with 2/7 water. This does not interfere with pathing nor will it evaporate.

All dwarves walking into or out of the fortress will go through the pond, cleaning themselves off.

Dwarves assigned to live in the adjacent communal bedroom have no labor assigned except for cleaning. They keep the pond clean and tidy. - hyndis
Δ 117. Strange Mood Insurance
Should any miner, mason, or stone detailer go into a strange mood they will pick the closest stone as their base material.

The closest stones to the workshop are the stones directly under the workshop, and they are all high value ores.

This means that all furniture artifacts are made out of gold, silver, or platinum ore for the added bling factor. - hyndis
Δ 117. Tree Farm
Custom workshop allows dwarves with the woodcutting skill to produce a variety of mushroom based lumber.

Each job worked has only a 10% chance of producing 1 unit of lumber. The other 90% of the time it produces nothing. This allows a slow and entirely automatic means of producing wood for the fortress. - hyndis
Δ 117. Well Cistern
Ocean water is pumped up through a floor grate, via a pump, and then fills a cistern. The magic of dwarven pumps and having a constructed, block lined cistern with both walls and floor constructed means that the water is now pure water. Its not salt water anymore. - hyndis
Δ 116. Farms
Plenty of food for the fortress. - hyndis
Δ 116. Water Reactor
Generates power for the magma pump stack. The DWR can be controlled entirely remotely so its safe. No drowning risk.

Even still, dwarves are taught how to swim in the classrooms as part of universal education. - hyndis
Δ 67. Magma Pump Stack
Power is provided from the water reactor near the fortress. Magma can be pumped up to the fortress level.

The entire pump stack is sealed off to prevent accidents. The pump stack can be controlled via levers and magma safe mechanisms. - hyndis
