Ironfalls the Exalted Wheels - 239 Mid Summer by Broletarian

Map Description:

My first fortress to last more than 15 years. A lot of firsts went into this one, actually. It contains my first set of magma pumps, my first water wheels, my first eagle breeding program, my first indoor garden, and my first duchy! This is by far the best map I've ever created.

Δ 47. The Eyrie
This is where I breed my war eagles. I assign them to my marksdwarves so that they can fly over the walls while my archers injure the enemy. The bridges on each side are raised up in the event of a siege to prevent the nesting eagles from being hurt. - Broletarian
Δ 44. Iron Statues of Asmel and Vanel
The gods of wealth, fortresses, and rivers. I thought it was fitting to perch them on top of the water wheels. - Broletarian
Δ 43. Main Defense tower
has fortifications overlooking both the small and the main entrance bridge and weapon traps guarding the tower entrance. - Broletarian
Δ 43. The Canyon
I carved out the width of this canyon from the original 4 tile wide river so I could have my fortress overlooking a small lake at the bottom. - Broletarian
Δ 42. the waterwheels and the falls
These are the namesake of the fortress. They are made from iron blocks and towercap logs. They power the magma pumps below. - Broletarian
Δ 40. Barracks
These are the barracks for the melee troops of Ironfalls. The archery range and marksdwarves' barracks are right below them. - Broletarian

Δ 39. Duchess's Throne Room
Attached are the royal bedroom and royal dining room, each containing only masterpiece quality or artifact furniture - Broletarian

nothing too special here. was going to create a balcony for each room overlooking the ponds but never got around to it. - Broletarian
Δ 39. Mayor's office

the statues surrounding the area depict major events from the history of the fortress. - Broletarian
Δ 38. Arena
Hasn't seen as much action as I'd like it to, but it turns out dwarves get a little frightened by having armed goblins fighting giant scorpions a few feet below them. - Broletarian
Δ 38. Dining Hall
The main dining hall. Kegs of booze are attached to the walls and kept separate from the food, which is stored on the level below. - Broletarian
Δ 38. Grand Hall
The main chamber of the fortress, flanked by columns that stretch up 3 z levels. The uppermost level is engraved. - Broletarian
Δ 38. Hospital
contains three beds and two traction benches, as well as a fair amount of soap and thread. - Broletarian
Δ 38. Main Entrance
Masterpiece quality Limestone block bridge. - Broletarian
Δ 38. Metal Industry
The heart of the fortress. All workshops, except the wood furnaces, are magma powered. This is where metal is smelted, wood is burned, and weapons and furniture are forged. - Broletarian

Δ 37. Magma Reservoir
This powers the metal industry. The pump stack is just south of this. - Broletarian
Δ 37. The lake
This little lake was dug out during the winter. Its volume is controlled by the three floodgates to the right. It's been used to sweep away enemies during sieges. - Broletarian
Δ 37. Wells, mushroom garden, and reflecting pools
I flooded this area around 226 and then drained it in order to grow the mushroom trees you see here. They go well with the columns and pools. - Broletarian
Δ 36. Catacombs
The tombs of the first six are on the right, the Duchess on the left, and everybody else in the north and south wings. everyone has a steel coffin. Thankfully, these have seen little use. - Broletarian
Δ 36. Food Industry
Uncooked food is kept below the workshops while drinks and prepared meals are kept up above, closer to where the dwarves can reach them. - Broletarian
Δ 36. Stockpiles!
Wood and Bars on the right, everything else to the left. - Broletarian
Δ 35. Jail
With masterpiece silver chains to ensure that my criminals have the best of comforts. - Broletarian
Δ 34. The floodgates
3 z levels of floodgates allow me to control the depth of the river at this area. Currently the top two are open. When closed, the water level rises and will drown any enemies (or friends) at the front door. - Broletarian
