Magma pool

This is the top of the magma pool, where the magmafall flows back in. The pump stack from the sea (one level below) draws up fresh magma to replace any that "evaporates" from this layer, and the pressure plate (on the right) prevents this level from filling up enough to overflow to the level above. The only other thing on this level is the magma pool access bridge (currently retracted), and the access to the forges, below the surface of the pool.

Metal/gem storage

All ore is collected here, along with smelted bars and gems, both cut and uncut. Also here are the levers controlling the magmafall, the pump stack from the magma sea, access to the pool, and the drain.

Magmafall top

This it the top of the pump stack for the magmafall, pumping up 5 separate streams of magma from the pool at the bottom to ensure a more consistent flow to the fall. On the right is the primary perpetual energy generator, which powers the wonder.

Central level

This is the main level of the fortress, holding the central walkway that circles around the magmafall. This level, along with the ones immediately above and below, hold the majority of the housing, with a few extras up to the dining level. It also holds the primary barracks, farming areas, and the trade depot, along with the mayor's and military commander's quarters/offices. Also the jail. The drawbridge to the right of the trade depot can be raised to seal off the entryway, as the second line of defence should hostile forces make it past the main entrance before that bridge can be raised. The dig designated area around the magmafall pump stack is what will eventually become the entrance to the caverns and further mining efforts.

A pond, refilled

With some work, I established a pump stack to re fill the stagnant pond I'd drained out earlier to bury a body.

Unfortunately, the water is full of blood and vomit.

Strangely, the water is also full of guests. I think this is some kind of bug. Go down a level and you'll see them for yourself. There's another one who has decided to hang out in the outtake.

Stockpiles/Underlay

Bunch of support stuff here. The water source is in this layer, which feeds into the well and pump stack for the reservoir. In addition, passages to the pump stack, the ballistae, and the entrance fortifications.

Captain's Quarters and Jail

I don't think anyone has been incarcerated, but each cell has its own well. To the right is the top of the pump stack that feeds the cistern, which was a bit of work to design but well worth it.

Pun intended.

Obsidian Factory

Still in heavy use, currently churning out obsidian blocks for the cavern work-sites and the pump stack.

3rd cavern layer works.

The 3rd cavern layer. Work is under way to drop 3 large blockhouses through the roof to the north to provide power for a water and 2 magma pump stacks for major engineering works. A dam to the east will isolate the cavern lake, allowing it to be drained and replaced by a magma lake.

- 265 - The first power house is mostly complete, just a few bridges need to be connected and a some sluice channels mined out.

Magma Forges

Drawing the good molten stuff from the land's core itself, the magma forges work day and night processing and working with all the metals in the Fort's stocks. Further north is an obsidian farm and a magma pump stack bringing magma to the surface. The forges are heavily fortified as beyond the walls, terrible things fly.

Obsidian-cast pyramid

No pyramid yet, since I haven't finished magma pump stack.

Don't know an english word for the structure that you can see here. Form? Mold?

Power plant

This will provide power for pump stacks.

Not finished yet.

Magma Cistern--Cross-Section

You can see just how big the magma cistern is in this cross-section. The sides slope inward about 40% of the way down because I had to cast obsidian around the aquifer. On the left, you can see the pump stack I used to fill the cistern.

Temporary Forges

This magma forge and smelter are only in place so that I can make the hundred something magma-safe corkscrews and pipe sections necessary to construct a pump stack so that I don't have to haul this crap back and forth. Yeah, I could use minecarts, but having a magma pumpstack provides SO MANY OTHER INTRINSIC BENEFITS.

Level Six :: Largely Undetermined

Currently the Captain of the Guard has their quarters here, and I have a stockpile for magma-safe items that will eventually become a pump stack that brings molten rock up from the depths. But there's not much else going on here just yet.
