Fortress: Sandbathed | apparentbliss
I am fond of using fractal designs for sleeping quarters, and like the way that this one appears to be shaping up. It lacks the wider hallways of my typical design, but I doubt there will be enough traffic down here for it to be much of an issue. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-17 |

With the map so rich in sand layers, I could afford to dig straight down to the second layer below ground, leaving the uppermost layer available to carve out with fortifications, or whatever else. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-17 |

This z-level (and the z-level below it) seem to have large iron ore deposits, which I do not want to tap until my miners are more proficient. Most of my forts tend to be up in the hills, and working with sedimentary layers is an unusual pleasure. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-17 |

Masonry, Carpentry, Mechanics and Crafts are all slammed together in this little room ... for the time being. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-17 |

Being on a map of sand such as this, the magmaworks seem better labeled as the glassworks -- certainly, that is what they will produce the most of. I have plans to construct something large-ish above ground with glass blocks, once the fort is a bit more established. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-17 |

Because the land is so flat, we spy a watering hole not far from where our wagon slides to a halt. It will be one of our first priorities to transfer this water into a cistern where it can be preserved from the desert's harsh rays. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-16 |

This seems like as good a spot to stop as any -- the mixture of limestone and andesite pebbles suggests granite and magma lurking beneath the surface. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-16 |

Fortress: Syrupdeaths | apparentbliss
As you can see, I'm not handling cave adaptation very well. I'm not sure if it was masons coming out to build the battlements, or a mechanic coming out to build a trap, or what. I should probably start making a light-filled statue garden in every fort as a matter of course. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |

As you can see, my legions of haulers are ripping the sod to shreds. At some point in the next year or so I think I'm going to go "entirely internal" for a year or two -- let the grass regrow, the saplings mature, and see whether I can get by on the umpteen hundreds of barrels I've already made. Before I do that, though, I want to make sure my caravan approach is fully roaded/trapped up, so that I don't have to go and constantly wipe out saplings on it. I'm going to add a set of catapults to the ballistas guarding the entrance. Not sure if they will actually be useful, but hey, why the hell not. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |

I had nearly filled up 5 10x10 squares full of stone storage with mostly cassiterite ore before I finally found more malachite with which to make bronze. Now my extra "expansion" wings look pretty unnecessary. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |

Because I blundered into adamantine in the lower levels while exploratory mining, the queen showed up as a peasant. I had been preparing for this moment since running across the valuable metal, so her quarters were nearly ready by the time she arrived. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |

I think I have four or five casualties now; one fresh recruit that ran out alone to face a full complement of goblins, and the rest civilians caught unawares while picking up wood. Once I get towercaps up and running, there will be far fewer deaths. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |

I haven't really embarked on a map with lots of granite before, so the whole "I can actually make bronze" thing is new to me. Indeed, I started exploring this higher up level looking for more malachite to use up all the cassiterite I already had. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |

It seemed prudent to make a loom near to the spider webs, so that my weaver wouldn't spend so much time running back and forth. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-08-01 |
