Fortress: Whipgilt apparentbliss

Bathed in Blood

Blood everywhere -- goblin, human, dwarven -- but there is more to be shed soon, very soon. Notice, among other things, the two goblin bowman unleashing hell from just inside the exit ramp.

Fortress: Swampsinks apparentbliss

Defensible Entry

Eventually, there will be a drawbridge closing off the footpath here, as well as a much longer lead-in pathway to the fortress that I can fire ballistas down.

Masterwork Sleeping Devices

When my part-time broker, part-time barrel-maker turned out this masterwork bed, I was quite surprised, but I figured it could be a good soporificator for dwarves coming down to the dreaming warrens.

I may have to move it into nobles' quarters at some point, but for now, I like it where it is.

Undermagma Underworld

I thought it would be nice to stick the catacombs in underneath the magma pool. Digging them out was a colossal pain (and expanding them will be the same way), but I like the concept.

Nobles and military will probably be separated out, somewhere.

Bauxite Dining

I think I may surround the dining room with a ring of fire later. Bauxite and magma -- every dwarf's dream.

Building Suspension

More and more I am running into 'building suspended' messages. I will order a building built many times, and unsuspend it many times, only to have it continually suspended. I suppose I deserve it for "cheesing" the miasma spread.

Nearby Magma

I was under the impression that the magma was on this side of the map, but I had no idea it was this close. Had I punched through early on when I was digging these corridors, I may well have had some fire imp problems.

Not-So-Walled Courtyard

This "safe outdoor space" would be a lot safer if the brook didn't freeze over and give anybody access via this corner ... yet another oversight.

Late Depot

For the first time in a long time, I forgot to put up a depot before the first fall's caravan. I put one up right away following that, but of course by that point it was too late.

Meager Bedrooms

Yet another inexplicably delayed development initiative, not bringing anybody with Carpentry (and not assigning anybody to it for any length of time) led to slow bed building and general messiness. Still in a state of disarray.

Stepped Magma Tunnel

I tried to put in some vertical drop over the run of my magma tunnel this time, because I was tired of the tunnels taking forever to fill. It seemed to work reasonably well -- not as well as a couple magma-safe screw pumps, but this is a lot easier to construct.

Dry Cistern

A case of me trying to be too clever by far. Because the map freezes in winter, I thought a cistern necessary; the proximity to the brook led me to think that a quick screw-pump hop over the bank of the brook would be perfect for filling one up. Long story short, I never got around to building the screw pump, and my ranger almost died this winter to thirst.

Next time: switch over to a floodgate-switched filling solution earlier, and dig an "appropriately sized" cistern initially if I'm draining a pond (as I was).

The Long Road to Iron Ore

I forgot to export the level with the iron ore, but it was just a deposit visible in the side of the valley. This is another project which I rather suspect should wait until later (along with the silk farming), and will probably get shelved.

Silk Farming

Clearing all the boulders out of this area is a colossal pain, because workers trek out, move a boulder or two, then trek back. Once it's clear, silk will be available, though I doubt it will manage to be as productive or hassle-free as pigtail is.

Bone Overflow

When I made this bone/shell/skull stockpile next to the craftshop and bowyer, I didn't set the flags right, and ended up with several giant miasma clouds as a reward. After setting the flags properly, the stockpile promptly filled to overcapacity. I must have hunted more than I thought in this first year.
