Fortress: Cavestir Hellzon

The Final Frontier

Well I lucked out and got not one but two magma pipes reaching the first cavern layer. On a 2x2 embark too.

Down here is where we keep the forges, naturally. Kilns too, there is clay at the top, but no sand, so the glass furnace was hastily put up to save a moody glassmaker.

We found marble in the lower levels, so there are plans to make steel. Cavestir is doing alright.

Noble Pillars

Scroll around a bit and you'll see that Cavestir's nobility live in the smoothed natural pillars of the first cavern. The northmost two belong to two barons who arrived as workers and inherited the titles during their stay in Cavestir. The next caravan reported that their holding had been overrun by goblins...

Dwarf Suburbia

As it turns out, an 11x11 square easily divides into nine 3x3 rooms with walls in between. Thus was born the dwarven apartment complexes of Cavestir, all located on top of a "plaza" with some practical function. Well, some of them, it's just the hospital, library and generic temple right now because the rest aren't filled out.

The eighteen rooms in the top right are prison cells, located above the basic temple to The Lord Of Controlling, the dwarven god of order and duty. It seemed fitting.

Tomb

Almost but not quite filled up. More coffins have been ordered. The central slab is a dedication to Nithe Hilloiled the Water of Dawning, the last titan in the world, mortally wounded by Lusko Wetgood. Lusko rests in the bottom row, second coffin from the left.

We are now in the Age of the Goblin, thanks to Lusko.

Semi-failed tree farm

Saplings grow well enough - in the half that got irrigated before evaporation overcame influx of water. Harumph. Possibly I'll irrigate from the right too.

Tavern and stables

"The Mushrooms of Chaos" draws in travelers from human lands to rest and tell stories. To the right, egg farms, pigsty and monster stables. Hopefully, the giant olms should start breeding, giving us some local variety in meat.

Darn traders

Traders keep dropping big loads of wares as they leave. Maybe because of the blood rains. Moving the depot inside helped a bit but not entirely.

Masonry and Mines

I've taken to making these every fortress, since ordering specific colors of furniture and trade goods is handy on occasion.

Downward Passageway

This passage was accidentally discovered after automining a gold vein. It leads down 30 z-levels then hits the second cavern layer. I've turned this layer into a room, and bricked off both ends.

First Caverns

A troll and a cave croc rushed up this staircase soon after discovering these caverns, and killed quickly after meeting the militia. Then, the passage was bricked.

Farming, storage, carpentry, dining, and sleeping are all accomplished here. Can later be used for storage and military training.
