Nobles' Rooms

It's getting to be that time -- time to set up a few nicer rooms for a noble or two. I have only just begun to carve out space.

Noble Stacking

I'm not sure if I've edged the Group Noble Housing up to Royal status yet, but it's close. Next step is to build in little alcoves for the beds, which I can close off with floodgates or internal-marked doors, and turn into mini murder chambers in case of unreasonable mandate.

No Sun Berries?

I still haven't got any sun berries to plant. Granted, I stopped running out my herbalist during non-spring months a while ago, but you would think the hippies would bring some seeds.

No Barrels?

I thought I was quite clever for saving barrels by designating this prepared food stockpile to be without them. I'm not 100% sure now, though, since there are so many flies hovering around them all the time. Even if the flies aren't causing wear, they are causing unhappy thoughts.

Nearby Magma

I was under the impression that the magma was on this side of the map, but I had no idea it was this close. Had I punched through early on when I was digging these corridors, I may well have had some fire imp problems.

Metalworks

Powered by coke-via-wood, this none the less provided a pair of iron outfits for the "initial" militia (which was subsequently slaughtered, after I spent too much time letting them mine).

My first two moods were Armor and Weapon, so that certainly helps.

My main mistake was probably putting off "full-scale" metal production until magma.

Metal Stocks

I use quantum stockpiles for convenience and FPS considerations. This area holds metal ores, bars, and products.

Meatworks

After the first rhesus macaque raid caused a backlog and miasma fest, I expanded to double butchers to make sure I was not missing out on any delicious meat.

The Crematorium provides a delightful amount of ash out of the otherwise useless byproducts, allowing my lye production to provide for both clean dwarves and an abundance of building materials after combination with slag.

And then, of course, the leather and the bones and food and what have you.

Meatpile

This (general stores for non-plant food materials, a.k.a. the meatpile) has ended up being the central room in this fort thus far. The fort cannot grow to the east, however (map edge), so over time, the Dining Hall will be closer to the center than anything else.

Meager Dining

Fine dining coming soon. The secondary center of the fort (aka the drinking bit). To be expanded and tavern-ized.

Meager Bedrooms

Yet another inexplicably delayed development initiative, not bringing anybody with Carpentry (and not assigning anybody to it for any length of time) led to slow bed building and general messiness. Still in a state of disarray.

Masterwork Sleeping Devices

When my part-time broker, part-time barrel-maker turned out this masterwork bed, I was quite surprised, but I figured it could be a good soporificator for dwarves coming down to the dreaming warrens.

I may have to move it into nobles' quarters at some point, but for now, I like it where it is.

Masterwork Religion (?)

I still haven't quite got the hang of the religion / Praying system in Masterwork. Very often, the praying labor isn't displaying in the unit list, and the long durations (six months?) make it hard to tell what's going on. I have yet to find its output very useful, either, but then, I don't think I've gotten more than two years into any Masterwork game, so I'm probably overlooking the usefulness of identifying various baddies.

Masterwork Pimping

What the hell do you do with a masterwork grate? Install it next to your main staircase, of course. It is completely superfluous, but that didn't stop me.

Manufacturing Layer

Some of this stuff (e.g. the dining room) will get reshuffled later, once there are permanent locations.
