Fortress: Sandbathed | apparentbliss
With the large surge in population afforded by the second wave of immigration, the textile industry was enabled to kick into full gear. Both of my first two strange (well, strange and fey) moods belonged to this group; the first, the weaver, did not receive legendary status, but the second, the clothier, did. Let the world quake in fear at the thought of masterwork socks. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-18 |

Usually, by this stage in my fortresses, I have carved out a far better space in which the dwarves can cram their gullets, but somehow / for some reason, that task keeps slipping this time around. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-18 |

Despite the presence of the aquifer, or even the nearly-trivial action of digging an access tunnel over to it, my dwarves all trek overland to the embarkment cistern whenever they have a hankering for turtles, or need to fetch water for the sick. As with seemingly many other things in this fortress, constructing a savory and safe water supply is a chore that keeps getting put off. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-18 |

I don't know that it's a particularly good idea, but lately I have been digging the outdoors and above-ground trade depot. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-19 |

This steep slope off to the side goes up quite a ways before it peters off, meaning that I have a lot of z-levels to work with (I think 50 total). I may do some sort of tower, or perhaps some sort of super-high entrance-bridge / deathtrap. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-19 |

When I made this bone/shell/skull stockpile next to the craftshop and bowyer, I didn't set the flags right, and ended up with several giant miasma clouds as a reward. After setting the flags properly, the stockpile promptly filled to overcapacity. I must have hunted more than I thought in this first year. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-19 |

Clearing all the boulders out of this area is a colossal pain, because workers trek out, move a boulder or two, then trek back. Once it's clear, silk will be available, though I doubt it will manage to be as productive or hassle-free as pigtail is. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

I forgot to export the level with the iron ore, but it was just a deposit visible in the side of the valley. This is another project which I rather suspect should wait until later (along with the silk farming), and will probably get shelved. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

A case of me trying to be too clever by far. Because the map freezes in winter, I thought a cistern necessary; the proximity to the brook led me to think that a quick screw-pump hop over the bank of the brook would be perfect for filling one up. Long story short, I never got around to building the screw pump, and my ranger almost died this winter to thirst. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

I tried to put in some vertical drop over the run of my magma tunnel this time, because I was tired of the tunnels taking forever to fill. It seemed to work reasonably well -- not as well as a couple magma-safe screw pumps, but this is a lot easier to construct. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

Yet another inexplicably delayed development initiative, not bringing anybody with Carpentry (and not assigning anybody to it for any length of time) led to slow bed building and general messiness. Still in a state of disarray. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

For the first time in a long time, I forgot to put up a depot before the first fall's caravan. I put one up right away following that, but of course by that point it was too late. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

This "safe outdoor space" would be a lot safer if the brook didn't freeze over and give anybody access via this corner ... yet another oversight. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-21 |

Fortress: Swampsinks | apparentbliss
I was under the impression that the magma was on this side of the map, but I had no idea it was this close. Had I punched through early on when I was digging these corridors, I may well have had some fire imp problems. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-23 |

More and more I am running into 'building suspended' messages. I will order a building built many times, and unsuspend it many times, only to have it continually suspended. I suppose I deserve it for "cheesing" the miasma spread. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2010-03-23 |
