Castle

As you can see, we had a siege lately, pretty big one. Cleanup is still in progress, though mostly done.

Once idlers start rising, I'm going to start sending the dead bits down the magma chute to the NW. This one was dug out with an access stair, which was tedious but functional, also led to a lot of gems.

Also, we now have a mated pair of war bobcats. :D

I'm not sure how tall that tower will be before I call it "finished." I kind of like how it looks from here.

8 - Beds and Healthcare

I've decided to think of prison as "mental health," rather than punishment. We've got a backlog of "crimes" against the nobility, but I haven't had energy or interest to put the rooms together yet. The southern wing is hospital proper. So far, we've only had a few deaths and no injuries.

Every room in the northern wing gets a well, plus one for the hospital. Go down and you'll see the reservoirs, which haven't been activated yet, for seasonal reasons.

7 - Tower

I feel like no fort is complete without an appropriately high tower. Not sure what I'll do with this one, probably craft storage, once it's safely topped off.

6 - Cavern 1

Here's where we got water. Also ironically. it turned out to be a favored place for kids to play. The children also made it really inconvenient to get that wall constructed, but now it is.

5 - Litast Craftsrailed

She died here, with her baby in her arms. I'd had a floor constructed to limit cavern access, and forgot that building said floor obliterated the upstairs. So, she went missing.

The survival of her baby son, now the child Tholtig Bronzepick, was the impetus to first access clean water, which ironically required opening up the cavern again.

She also was a legendary woodworker, thanks to the creation of Blotearthen the Petals of Praise, a pine bracelet.

4 - Living, Dining, Dying

Lots of new bedrooms, and a second story below. I'm still trying to keep families together, though I'm getting lazier about it. Children have claimed a few of the "temporary" bedrooms because I have other priorities.

Thankfully, our last migrant wave was a bunch of bachelors.

3 - Watering Hole

Decided it was time to setup the waterworks. They're almost ready. The N levers control flow into two reservoirs, and the S levers open the drains to the same. I think it's important to make sure any functional water source be drainable, because dwarves.

Sadly, I can't pump yet because the brook is currently frozen solid, but at least we have a safe source of water underground without breaching a cavern.

2 - Castle

Well, that's where the rock went.

Note the random heaps of black sand on the NE side of the circle? For some reason, there have been seemingly random cave ins coming from a specific spot high above the ground.

If you look at the farms below, you can see the constructed floor where I filled the spot in. After it broke open the third time, I began to suspect a bug. May make a report if/when it happens again.

For now, I imagine meteors.

Yes, that's a grizzly bear. I'm hoping for a female, eventually.
