Fortress: Skullwires Salmeuk

Dining Hall

Now open to all who wish to come (maybe wait a few weeks for the lizard thing to settle down), this room is always full of happy, dancing dwarves. Multiple golden pedestals show the proud wares of our magma forges, and rare acquisitions from the seasonal traders. Including artifact dishware, masterwork golden scepters, and gigantic Emeralds cut in the most scintillating styles.

Horrid Were-Beast Attacks Hapless Citizens

"Where are the guardsmen?!" scream the crazed onlookers. Two lie dead, and multiple others are crawling away with bleeding, gaping wounds cut by the fiends razor teeth.

Stairs to the Deep

"These two staircases shall be dug towards the center of this earthplane, in hopes that the miners will make discovery of the grand caverns, like those we know from back at the mountainhome."

Main Landing: Dining Room, General Quarters, Magma Forge

Centrally located is the oddly shaped dining room, itself circled by three main starcases and a set of hallways. To the southeast are the bedrooms, burrowing into the mountainside like roots. To the northeast are the first magma forges.

Mountaintop Fortress

A modestly-built keep, with plain basalt walls and a microcline bridge to keep out the nasties.

Though, you have to admit the view is nice!

Someone Crashed the Damn Wagon

I guess this spot is as good as any.

...

Is that GOLD I smell? Could it be?!

Marble Quarry

Because you can't have steel without flux stone.

Cave 1

So much silk! But I was too lazy to tangle with a web-spinning forgotten beast made of sapphire.

Magnetite and Lignite!

I truly lucked out to have a site that not only contains a volcano and running water, but also contains a partial aquifer, iron ore, and coal to boot!

I'm gonna miss these lush resources.

Power Plant/Livestock/Prison

The levers are for intake and outtake. Once the wheels are going, there's plenty of power to pump magma into the magma room. It's a mighty machine.

The prison is depressingly busy. Too many fistfights.

Also rock pots are for seeds for plants growing in greenhouses a level up.

Dead Dwarves

I need to find a way to make my dwarves less suicidal. It has been rough. Most of these are death by dwarf or by madness.

Next level down has the workshop where slabs are engraved and the stocks of coffins and slabs. It's a lonely place.

Bedrooms and Finished Goods Stockpiles

I decided this time that I'd have a special pile for everything. It took a while, but I think I did it.

I still have a weakness for this fractal bedroom layout. I keep using it.

Also, the cinnabar gear connects to the cinnabar lever, that's the linking point between the power and the magma pumps.

Founder's Quarters

Early on I set up special bedrooms for the founding seven.

Only two of them are still alive, and one of them has lost their wits. Once I noticed a couple were dead I built statues and removed their beds to keep them special, but after a while I gave up. Too many deaths to keep track of each one. I hope to do better.

Captain of the Guard/Hammerer

Officials of "justice" deserve offices.

Mayor's Quarters/Ore Storage

I've been through a few mayors.

The levers to the right power the magma trap. One connects the power plant to the pumps, and the others drain it out.
