Fortress: Moistnesscloistered | apparentbliss
Despite telling all my dwarves to stay indoors, a bunch of civilians ran outside during the last siege, past my ranks of soldiers waiting on the *safe* side of the traps, and got themselves killed. In future forts, I think I will try to put more of the approach to the base outdoors, so that the margin for civilian AI error is greater. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

Upon reaching the rank of champion, each soldier is assigned a tomb in this august space. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

I have over 9000 prepared meals now, most of them roasts. I probably could/should lay off on food prep. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

I thought I was quite clever for saving barrels by designating this prepared food stockpile to be without them. I'm not 100% sure now, though, since there are so many flies hovering around them all the time. Even if the flies aren't causing wear, they are causing unhappy thoughts. The main benefit of this is giving the dwarves a way back into the base that doesn't run them through a giant chunk of goblins near the wide entrancel Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

I was excited when this megabeast spawned, but then it just got trapped in the first cage trap is stumbled over. Oh well ... I think it makes a nice decoration. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

I'm trying to get all my various artifacts down into here, so that if some thief somehow manages to sneak inside, none will be available up near the surface. I still haven't gotten the stockpile settings right, though, so lots of artifacts are still laying around the fortress. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

Fortress: Syrupdeaths | apparentbliss
This time around, I'm going with fully outdoor defenses. Hopefully this will keep the civilians somewhat more out of the way. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

Some of this stuff (e.g. the dining room) will get reshuffled later, once there are permanent locations. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-30 |

Still no soldiers to give the defenses teeth, but the structure is in place. I may add an extra turn on the south side of the barracks, I may not. The gauntlet is plenty long as it is, I suspect. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-31 |

My main leader / social skiller got a mood and became a legendary mason. This is of course a good problem to have, but I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to start training up a new broker type, or if I can live with a part time mason. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-31 |

In my very first elven caravan, the hippies brought me two giant eagles. It's better to be lucky than good. Anybody know if they'll actually breed? Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-31 |

Fishing is of course a grand waste of time, but sometimes I'm too lazy to make sure that all my dwarves are actually being productive. Submitted by: apparentbliss - 2009-07-31 |

This long stretch is bookended with bridges to be retracted once the goblins are inside the area, at which point they can be fired upon by the ballistas, and the barracks, if they are still close enough. I may beef up this entryway by putting up a walkway and fortifications along the walls of the long stretch, allowing marksdwarves to follow and harass them at any and all points.
