Fortress: Torchroar Tharis

Ship anchor

I dug and built this as an imaginary stabilizer for the ship's column, and to facilitate the transportation of granite to the ship itself.

Star base

This was where the blocks that went into the star were stored while under construction. Lucky, I've never had to raise that bridge. It was a security hole for a long time.

Reservoir

I never get these things right on the first try. Passive overflow from the river just wouldn't do.

Second time, with four screw pumps, was the charm.

Workshops

And stockpiles are a level below. The 3x3 staircase on the east is the miner's access tunnel, and the other three chambers go to the three caverns. Only #3 is open, and has been the sight of an impressive elk bird invasion, hence the trail of blood. The mechanisms are to operate some mills. The first mayor (also a vampire) had a fetish for millstones, so I figured I'd put them to good use. Furniture stockpile in the center.

Fort Central

I lost three founding dwarves to an amateur mistake that led to a cave-in building that bridge, and this was after losing another one to an alligator attack right at the get-go. You can see their tombs along the path.

The remaining three foudners have survived.

Circular building is bookkeeper's office, with the manager directly above. Bookkeeper has the surface bridge levers, the manager has the underground ones. West is the hospital, south is the crypt (goes down for a bit) east is urban sprawl. And the smoother out bit on the west is the duchess's chamber. Her love for bins is very irksome.

And that big room on the NW is the main dining hall, which still sees some use.

Farming

It's all very organized. I still have an affection for doing my magma chutes the old-fashioned way, which means tediously. But it works!

Moon

Barracks, archery towers, loads of war dogs. Haven't seen an invasion in a while, which is kind of depressing, especially with the brand new steel weapon traps in the west (from whence the goblins usually come.) The last siege was just about wiped out, so I guess I can't blame them.

The towers got taller for the sake of being tall. The roofs are of slate. I might put some offices in at some point, with windows.

Ship

Several stories of tavern here, supported by a pillar rising up from the riverbed. The green instrument is an artifact pipe organ, while the other two are massive triangles. It's a hopping joint.

Star

Temples here, one in each point, and more a story above. Above that is the library. I decided on a star when I noticed that the main fort was a crescent. It made sense, and gave me an excuse to build up and out.

Moon, Star, and Ship

There's a scroll to the SW taht has been burning for several years, after an enormous fire-breathing pangolin rampaged through. That was the main reason why I covered the courtyard with chert and cobalt.

BTW, nearly all of the brown stone is chert. I still have about 900 stones left, even though I've used it for just about everything.

The grizzly bear house was originally the barracks, until I noticed dwarves dodging through the wall and to their deaths.

Also, yes, the water freezes every winter, which is convenient.

The Mayor likes backpacks

We've got a surplus. If I ever get an adventurer who needs backpacks...

Ethnically diverse party

Funny that most of the guests seem to prefer the balcony.

Those are flowers

But it still makes me think of blood and guts.

Stupid Dwarf Trick

Follow the water flow. My plan was to flood the entire walled-in area with a ridiculous depth of water. It partially froze, which was momentarily interesting. And I think the water depth it's at now is stable, but I don't have the patience to wait for years with nothing else to do, especially when I'm not sure if it'll actually fill in.

Still, it was fun putting the mess together. I think it's the biggest dwarven engineering project I've ever done.

The straw that broke the camel's back

A werebison turned in the tavern. I think I've got a few visitors and dwarves infected. I'm getting tired of these incursions.
