4 Here was a tree
While I was digging, I noticed some of the dorfs were getting tired. Of course, not all of them can be as tough as I. I looked around, where was the woodworker? Ah, well, there she is. "Hey, Ral!"
"Yes?"
"Have you thought about beds?"
"Well of course. I was just trying to decide which tree to cut first. There are so few of them."
"What about that white one up there? It's pretty close?"
"Crossfountains, they're all pretty close to here, really. And I'd rather save those. That's a feather tree, you know, better for making bins out of. How about that highwood over there? For one thing, it's huge. It's also going to be dangerous if I have to run out there later. Yep. That's it. You'll have beds to sleep in soon as you have space dug out for them."
A mighty crash echoed across the hillside as the great tree fell. And then the resounding reports of her copper ax making quick work of the immense thing. We still haven't made space for it all, hopefully we'll have enough beds for at least the first migrant wave from this.

3 Offices! Pillars!
Gushud ran up to me. "Sir, if you don't mind." I noticed he was backing off a little from me. "Out with it!" I said.
"Ah, yes. I think we could use some office space. And isn't this an awfully big room to be unsupported?"
"Of course! I'll take care of that! Let's see...one office for each of you, right by the entrance. And pillars! Of course!" I did some brief calculations. "Here, here, and...Shoot! We dug it out already. I'm too busy to build things!" Hmm...who's not working...
"You there, what's your name?"
The herbalist looked up at me, eyebrow raised.
"I said, what's your name?"
"I'm Athel."
"Well, since you're not busy, why don't you start the masonry business."
He look at me kind of funny, then without a word, ran off to set up a workshop. "And could you put up a pillar right there, on the southeast corner?"
He learned fast. Before long we had a nice big pile of chert building blocks.
And I can see Tun getting stronger with each swing of the pick.
Neither of them shall keep up with me, though.

2 Trade Depot
So, we were milling around. Tun was talking to the bookdorfs, and I was getting bored. Soooo bored. So I went and dug out a tunnel. Reg ran to catch up with me, and I told him. "I've got it worked out! We dig in about ten cubits, and then we dig out a big circle. Let's say...25 cubits! That'll be our main cave. Once that's done, we'll unload and see where we are.
Reg nodded and got digging. I was pleased to feel the clink of stone continue as the pick struck jet. "Perfect for the Trade Depot!" I thought. And then...hematite! Huzzah! We got iron!

1 Meet Reg Crossfountains
I signed on to do masonry. Really, I did. I looooove stone. It's the best building material ever!
But tragically, I am the strongest, toughest dorf among us, so they trained me to dig. And I'm the smartest, so they trained me to machine and cut gems. But I can't do all of this at once! Gah!

Tun Tatooedbells
Can't imagine what drew them to this place. Had to doublecheck the map with Reg and Geshud, and they agree. Reg simply pointed to the topo map, pointed to the hillside we were sitting on, pointed to the brook to the east, and said "This is it. I mean, if your leadership would prefer, we could move the wagon a few feet south, but I am sure that this is it."
Geshud nodded with his friend, and complained that he didn't think he could handle much more of this hauling things around. He nodded to the mason and miner, another Reg. He'd done most of the work, and while he didn't look tired, seemed a bit miffed. He was also a silent type who preferred to work alone, so nobody wanted to bring him in, but his opinion was obvious. Already, he was going for his pick. I followed his lead.
Such a strange hillside, all sand and dirt, with only a small outcropping of flint. The trees are very tall, and strange here, but there aren't many. Hopefully there's coal in that chert somewhere, but who can say?
I fear we may have to slaughter the livestock sooner than I'd like. While the horse and yak may enjoy these exotic blue-greens, the grazing also seems very scant. Hopefully the sheep will live long enough to breed.
With these and other thoughts, cautiously, I approached Reg.
"So, Mr. Crossfountains, where shall we begin?

Mosus Claspedappeared
She's "taking a break."
This is most suspicious. I doubt she'll escape.
And surely, after a bout of fleeing across the map at random, she was slain by a zombie.

Main cave
You can see where the commander, marksdorf, and commander's baby were all slaughtered like so many lambs.
