Finding myself short of barrels and storage space up in the soil layer, I carved out space near the central stairway in one of my exploratory mining layers for a sort of "root cellar" style larder. Seeing how as all the barrels I had tied up in Prepared-Food-Storage were only holding one stack of food each, I made sure the fancy meals were left to sit on the ground.
