Interestingly enough, my fortress has a lever which performs the exact same function on my underground river, though it uses a door instead of a pump. I considered putting one in my last fortress (to restart the brook), but got tired of the lag.

The river jumpstarter is a lever that activates a pump that takes little bit of water out of the river at the source. Rivers apparently shut down after they haven't produced any water for a while (e.g. when dammed) and the water level has to decrease near the source to get them going again. It's the one that I ordered to be pulled twice.

With that many weapon traps (I count 392) and cage traps (I count 131), you would have needed well over 4,000 adamantine wafers, and a single HFS pit has less than a thousand tiles of raw adamantine. Where exactly did you get all of that?

Nice trap. I'm considering building something similar for my next fortress (my current one has its entrance bridge directly across an open magma pipe, so I tend to just retract the bridges and drop entire sieges into the magma).

Unrelated question - what's the "River jumpstarter"?

In case you're wondering about the immediate response of my dwarves, they were all patrolling right below those stairs. I like to gather them together in one spot, then wait for the right moment to send them all in one big rush.

Also, I know now why the trap failed... the cage got in the way of the stairs, blocking all but four of the wolves. Curses!! I'm fixing this now, and hopefully I'll have a "Take 2" uploaded later.

Too bad you cheated with reveal to get there, but you got pretty far with just 7 dwarfs
