That's nothing. I've started an controlled cave-in in an area of 200 x 300 tiles and over 5 z-levels. On the highest z-level were 270.000 stones (I dug the whole part of the map until the lowest z-level). The computer needed 30 minutes for the cave-in and 15 more minutes for the dust.

Very nice, your own design?

I'm very interested in building a factory based on this layout but I am having trouble figuring out the mechanics behind it.

I didn't play much of Dwarf Fortress in the original ACSII tileset so that may be it.

Is there a way I can contact you to ask you about building the factory?

Huh... Thanks, I'll try that out. I'm going to feel extremely stupid if that's what was causing the slowdown :

Ed- Well, I got FPS up to 1 (which is actually a lot), but in real time they move a bit slower without the speed boost. I'm gonna stick with SPEED:0

Running with dwarves at [SPEED:0] may actually be reducing your framerate even further, solely from the increased frequency of pathfinding calls.

It's just connected to the brook, so the waves are the same as those you can see there representing the flow of the water...

Just did the math, and 900 seconds of real-time translated to 4 seconds of video means my DF is running 225x slower than normal speed.

Now I wanna make a pool for my dwarves. At least something to give them some swimming skill for the hell of it.

3/7 depth to count towards the skill, right?

Speaking of which, I think that can explain the "waves". About half of it is 3/7 and the other half is 4/7, and that extra 1/7 is shifting all over the place. You just got lucky enough for it to retain a wave shape.

Sauber: retracting a bridge out from underneath the "freeze zone" wouldn't do anything at all, since the ice would still be attached to the walls.

How many rocks were actually smashed (i.e. by how much did the total in Z-Stocks decrease), and how many still remain?
